Delayed 328i coupe order

I placed an order with my local dealership in northern ca. May 18th. As this is my first BMW I understood the popularity and current demand for the car. Dealer and I discussed delivery date projection end of July. Called for production number yesterday (6/03) and allocation topic surfaced. Sa revealed that the dealership received a low allocation number and that my order will be pushed back a month. Is this normal? Expected delivery is early September.
Needless to say this is pushing my patience just a little. I just want my new ride! 328i black on black, step, sport pkg, leather, power seats.
