Question on swapping Professional Radios

I have a 2007 335i with the L7 Sound System with no USB, just AUX. If I were to swap radios (literally just the headunit/radio controls) with one from a newer E90 (that had USB), will that allow me to gain USB controls without changing anything else in the car? If so, can it be from a car without L7? Any programming needed? Thanks in advance.

And on a side note, if that does work, does that also give me the "gong" sound as well?

Those OEM radios were never offered in US E9x.

So in the case of getting one from Europe then you will need:

- OEM Profesional Radio with Bluetooth/USB/MOST
- USB cabling and BT microphone
- coding for USB, BT, and HK with the hope that it works with your Logic7 OEM amp. It may not work 100%.

Was hoping I could just swap radios, that sounds much more expensive! Thanks for the info and quick reply!

You have to be sure to get the radio with the most bus for L7(and if you have one and have stuff attached to it like PDC I think) . The coding seems to be the tricky part, and you have to do that yourself or find somebody that knows how to do it. BMW will not do this retrofit for you as far as I know.

I'm thinking for what I m looking to achieve, I should just spend the $300 and buy the MOST iPod integration cable. Newer "gong" is much more pleasant, but my main concern was the iPod controls. Do you know if you will get track information on the radio with the MOST cable? Or is it literally just for charging/track up and down capability?

From what I understand the 07 ipod retrofit from BMW

From what I understand the 07 ipod retrofit from BMW
sucks cause it uses the aux for audio and only digital control
for the ipod and you don't get USB music out of it.

I would consider a Dension first. The radio retrofit is still appealing as
it does get you HD radio if you don't have it.

Technic,
I have Base Stereo 05 MY with Professional Radio + BT + CDC.
I want to buy LCI Prof Radio (with USB and BT), then recode it to L7 to connect with MOST-RCA adapter. Will I have any problems with recoding LCI HU to L7?

Me on the other hand I am looking to upgrade mine to a double din unit.

Does anyone know how to get the climate control unit out of the bezel?

Easy. Use plastic card or some thing similar, start from left\right sode of the panel - it will detach easily.

If anything, it seems to me that this particular OEM HU has Bluetooth built-in (6NNA) and nothing else, as all MOST options are "No". Meaning, it does not have MOST port.

I have not seen any USA 3-Series (in person or in any forum) with these units. Either the TCU or the MULF are installed.

No point in coding to L7 if you don't have L7 amp.

No point in coding to L7 if you don't have L7 amp.( and L7 wiring)
Or are you going to add a DA2 and amps?
Also you would be better off going to an aftermarket
amp and speaker setup from a base system.

I believe there is also a 6nn unit with MOST

the fact that this has 6FL and no most leads me to believe it has the combox 'lite" (my term) built in.

So, on RealOEM it appears that 65129268822 is a unit with integrated BT and USB/IPOD that is installable in US cars without MOST. Is that correct?

Meanwhile, it also lists 65129251027, which is supposedly the same thing for cars "before 07/2011". getbmwparts sells both for the same price. Does anyone know if there any critical difference between the two?

^This.^

I just bought myself an Alpine S920HD after getting tired of the boring stock head unit. Before I just had an aux input and no other features. Now I have nav, hd radio, bluetooth, and much more. I am going to add sirius and a rear view camera next. IMO its not worth it to mess around with the stock unit when it is cheaper to just replace it with something much better.
