This is why!? E91 tourings are the best blend of utility, performance and handling. Looks super cool too IMHO esp with the roof rail delete! I couldn't think of a better wagon for the price on the market today.

Maybe another Chicago expat in the NW ? I moved here two years ago - completely agree on the roof rail delete, I love how clean my roof looks. I got the Thule 460's and the Aeroblades though for when stuff needs to go up there, but they go on and off in about a minute.

Like post #2..it's cultural. It's a Euro thing, I like seeing it out here but most people just don't think they're cool out here personally I LOVE them.

My wife grew up in Downers Grove/Woodridge suburbs of Chicago so of course our boy is confused with sports teams. He says he's a Seahawk fan which makes me happy. I love the Bears too, just not this year. LOL

Here's the beautiful thing about this thread. It presents a clear case that in 30 years when my son is my age, he will be driving my 6sp/sports/premium/premium sound 328xi E91 and it will be a collectable. I have a 7.5 km commute and aside from my weekend joy rides my current 25k will tick off the k's very slowly. The m-sport will be number one on the list of course but it will be a hit at the local car shows in 2043! Sorry to the idrive/Nav folks but I don’t think they will be worth as much as the non’s. Kind of like the 8 track players (unsupported/outdated technology) and if you remove/mod it you are no longer stock. Just a thought, I might start a new thread on that. After I do a search for a similar topic.

Picked up my E91 330d last weekend and it's an absolute monster.. the view through the rear view mirror of hot hatch / coupe driver's faces when they are annihilated by a diesel tourer is priceless

I have been lusting after an e91 for a couple of years now. I've had a couple 3 series in the past, a '95 325is and an '05 330i. I loved them both. I think having the utility of a wagon with the 3 series drivability would be a great combo. And to top it off, I think they can look fantastic - but need a little tweaking so they don't look too much like a soccer mom mobile. It's a shame they they aren't available as a 330/335, but there's always the the intake manifold conversion.

They seem to be much more common in SF. They have 4 at the local dealer. I test drove one just the other day, and now I'm thinking of tracking down the right one.

I went through the thread but haven't seen the pictures yet... there is a stunning looking grey E91 with black VMR V710 style wheels on it: I've seen it in the Boynton area before. Drool worthy. Next time I spot it I'll have to take some pictures.

I'm sure they were surprised when you pulled away. Looks like we are getting Diesels in our touring here in the states but only with AT, but that's not a deal breaker for me! Congratulations on your new ride and welcome to the forum!

because it looks like a station wagon and people have a bad connotation of those. I always think of the ones with the wood paneling on the side.

I miss my wagons. Went to Germany last year. Got a bad case of wagon envy.
A few pics for the fans:

it's a shame the sport utility was ever created!! can't stand all these huge behemoths on the roads. would love to see only wagons again.

Don't miss the extra power and torque at all, the manual transmission more than makes up for it - it's a much more engaging drive than the auto 335. To me that extra second of 0-60 acceleration wasn't as desirable as the balance of the ZSP suspension and the proper manual box.

The E91 is my sports car, I needed something that would handle well and also accommodate my two kids and golden retriever when needed. I'm no stranger to estates, have had an '04 V70R manual and a '01 Saab 9-5 wagon, currently have a '07 Aero wagon in the garage as well. I'm trying to keep the roof clean, but if needed I have Thule aero bars that can be quickly fitted and a roof box. Looking at new Thule boxes, If the Atlantis 1800 will fit then the entire family and the dog can go on a trip in the E91.

Fitted some 18" OZ Ultraleggeras for the winter with Dunlop Winter Sport 4Ds, was up in the mountains last week and was able to dead-start on inclines in the snow.

ahhh what kind of wheels are those? they look nice

Because I can drop the seats and get my bike in the back without taking off the wheels. Why not the roof? Because some (redneck / bogan / pikey (delete as applicable)) would have it off in seconds should I care to frequent a fast food establishment

Plus, it's not a bad place to sleep, should you feel the need to.

i take powernaps in mine, and it can haul a whole bunch of stuff with the seats folded

keep in mind, america is now ga-ga for crossovers. Big land yacht SUVs are going out of style quickly mostly because of gas prices.
However crossovers tend to remove the two big advantages of big SUVs; cargo capacity and offroad potential, but gain none of the upsides of smaller cars. so they're objectively BAD at everything compared to a wagon.

only way wagons will make a comeback is if a wildly influential car brand (like tesla or perhaps bmw) makes a push for them to become hip and cool again, and an alternative to crossover domination. it'll take a massive marketing effort though

given how rare the 6mt wagons are, if I can keep my wife from beating ours into the ground it should still have some good value left in a few years. of course, since manual cars are basically extinct, she might be driving this one for a while.

New here but I'm having a lot of fun in my 335i MSport Touring.

Much easier to load my drumkit and a couple of dead hookers in to than my old Fiat Coupe.

It's fast, sexy and accommodating, much like a good root.
