Impressive Sat Nav

Seems strange to post this on a BMW website but I was impressed and thought I'd share.

Obviously not had the new motor all that long and only used the sat nav a couple of times but have been really impressed with it so far (as I was with my 1st 350z). It's massively better than the ProfNav in my 330d but admittedly I've not tried the new i-drive version.

Anyway, earlier I was heading back to the office today around the M60 and glanced at the screen to see the road signs in the display; thought that was a great feature as it sticks around long after you've passed the actual signs (in case you miss them). Thought it looked pretty cool if nothing else .

Now you're all going to say that TomTom have been doing this for years and pee on my parade Oh, please excuse the dust!!!

I'll consider my 'parade' well and truely 'pissed-on' then

Kinda thought other systems would have had this but I was pleasantly surprised by it. Compared to the system in my 330d an old-skool A-Z looks advanced

No worries, no offense taken at all, I know you weren't being arsey.

Yeah, didn't want to mention the postcode thing...

...mmm...

...mine has NO postcode!!!! But it does look pretty

To be honest, I'm fine without the postcode, whenever I've used postcode ones before (unless of course it's full postcode) half of the time it's not been able to find it.

While travelling back along the M4 Sunday, overhead matrix signs were warning of long delays ahead, shortly after the 2009 BMW sat nav redirected us across Country to the M3 and chose a nice direct route, I have to say I was impressed.

I think that display is impressive and about time major manufacturers offered a decent nav set up for the £2K or so it costs to have it fitted!

Rogerxp, confession time, re your avatar thingy.... i now know it is the arse end of a 350Z convertible. However, each time I have seen it in the past I thought it was the back end of a Ford StreetKa. Apologies.... hope no offence caused.

I blame my lack of knowledge on the 350Z rather than an intimate affiliation with Fords finest!

StreetKa, wtf Is this angle any better for you??? Check out my bonet bulge!!!

In fairness, my SatNav hasn't got traffic diversions either, so it's all show but no go really!!! That said, the traffic diversions are BRILLIANT when they work effectively but USELESS when you realise that the crash has already been cleared & it sent you on a massive diversion for no reason. Has saved my bacon more times than not in the Beemer though...

Roger, impressive beast, particularly your bulge! Hope I didn't cause offence. I always fancied a blast in a 350Z. First saw one about 2001 in the US, they look great as a coupe and a 'vert.

Peter, I never take offense on a forum, don't worry, it's all banter. Thanks for the 'bulge' compliment though (oh, this is starting to sound wrong).

I personally think the Roadster looks like a roller-skate with the top down but still love it.

What ya think (might just be me)... ...maybe I should think about getting some work done at some point today

I had a blast in a 350z back along and damn fast it was too!

Well, it can be a little thirsty I suppose, but then it is a 3.5 V6. I'm getting 19/20mpg but then I hardly drive it in an economical way . I used to get 33mpg from the 330d when I drove it all the time (I noticed the other day it'd crept up to 38mpg now my wife drive it ).

Service wise, as far as I can remember, not too bad (especially compared to a BMW dealer!!)

Roger, I get the rollerskate comparison.

Kids today wouldn't know what a pair of those are!

Oh, and I advise doing a bit of work today , some of us are on holiday and can get away with it!
