33k Miles - have had every problem under the sun, now clutch is slipping

So I'm sure many of you have seen my posts with issue after issue with my E93. 2 fuel pumps, low pressure fuel sensor, turbo replacement, waste gate actuator, injectors - NOW my clutch is slipping.

From reading the forums, looks like people have had good luck with the ACT street clutch. MR5 seemed to like them as well. The car only has 33k miles and will be out of warranty in July 2011. What should I do? Sell, replace the clutch myself? ACT? Stock?

What are some suggestions, and who has done a clutch themselves?

Would I be stupid to put a stock clutch in?

If you are keeping your car (not leased) then go with an ACT clutch.

  • Buy ACT clutch with street disc
  • Take car to dealer, pick a good SA/Tech
  • Hand ACT clutch to Tech with some cash
  • Pick up car with ACT clutch installed and new stock clutch in a box
  • Sell stock clutch
  • Profit

Sorry about all your trouble man. With some patience and dealer/tech shopping you WILL be able to pull the above off.

Good luck,

-Walter

I'm assuming you guys mean the street clutch, correct? Not the race clutch. What are your thoghts about buying the clutch on Ebay?

nothing wrong with buying from ebay as long as you make sure it specifically says what you are buying and you make sure it's legit first.

They have it listed with the same part number and wrong picture - hopefully it shows up legit. Have my feelers out on a couple of shops and are waiting on quotes. I dont think I want to put it in myself because it's too freakin cold outside. What should I be expecting for quotes for a clutch install - also - are there any other parts that should be replaced at the same time that I'll need to get? Any "guides" or pressure plate screws that are one time use?

Thanks!

I would get an ACT with street disc (stay away from 6 or 4 puck discs).

I am not familiar with the clutch replacement process for our cars, but on my previous cars I'd just replace the engine seal behind the flywheel and resurface the flywheel itself.

Good luck,

-Walter

Why not just have BMW give you a free clutch? If it isn't being abused then they'll be happy to replace it under warranty.

I donno if your in the same shoes as me but i was told that my clutch life is supposed to last 100k miles with no problems. ( non modded of course) but BMW does not know that.

I got my car from BMW with 6k miles as a demo. The clutch went out at 12k and tried to blame it on me.

Following that i brought to them vehicle history reports on my previous 6-5mt cars to prove to them iam a experienced driver and the clutch must have been dogged when they took my car for test drives ( demo ).

They put their finger to their head and replaced my clutch.

All in all my point is just to ask . The answer " no " wont kill you and the answer " yes " is a sigh of relief.

It is usually a warranty replacement unless it looks abused to no end.

Yea, happy probably wasn't the best word to use when it comes to dealership clutch replacements.

Ahh - I know Shawn very well. Both my father and I take our cars to him. He's been absolutely excellent - but in this case I think I need to bite the bullet and upgrade anyways. MachV motorsports is selling me the street ACT clutch for 495 and putting it in for 650 bucks. Does this seem too high for the labor?
