Need New Rotors and Brake Pads
Greetings,
I took my car to a BMW dealer and they told me i need to replace both the rotors and brake pads. Rotors and Brake Pads from the dealer are too expensive: around $800 for the front and $600 for the back. I have heard that a solution to this would be to go aftermarket. If that's the case, can anyone sugest a good brand and model for both Brake Pads and Rotors? Thanks PS: I own a 2007 e92 BMW 335i. |

Hit eBay, R1 concepts is what you want to look for. Had them on three cars, installed on many friend's cars. Good stuff and won't break your wallet.

Aftermarket is definitely the way to go. Make sure you get carbon pads which are much less prone to produce break dust! As far as rotors there are a lot of aftermarket brands that are solid quality I can't remember which ones I used but the ones mentioned above are all solid. Good luck bro!

Go see Tiago at VRSF - I went with DBA4000 Slotted rotors front and rear. Excellent quality and great price.
go to Turner Motorsports and get your pads, lines, and brake fluid there. I went with Axxis Ultimate pads front and rear (awesome pad), StopTech steel braided lines, and Super Blue DOT5 brake fluid. All of that together for $800.00 plus shipping!

I have used Axxis Ultimate pads on my E34, and they stopped almost like a racing pad, but in the dead cold of winter when the rotor is 30 degrees below 0. DBA4000 T3 slotted rotors with stock pads (they still had 90% left at rotor change) for the front, all stock rear, replacing rear with DBA4000 XS over the summer with Axxis pads all around, and UUC brake lines. Have 2 cans of Super Blue waiting for it. The DBA rotors are superior to the BMW rotors in all performance measures, and look awesome. |

it depends if you wanted OEM-style blank rotors, slotted, or drilled, or a mixture of the 2...
pads are very subjective... do you want: performance? low dust? stopping power? fade resistant? There are too many X-factors with brakes to subjectly ask "what are the best brakes" ...if you want something close to OEM without breaking the bank... centric or zimmerman rotors, and stoptech street performance pads seem to be the best bang for the buck <- centric + stoptechs is what I will be ordering in the next few days.. i also need a brake job.

Define performance brakes... like better pads, or a BBK?
The best pads to found are in the aftermarket. And as for BBK, there is a six pot conversion using the 135 calipers but the rotor diameter is smaller than stock 335 so you would actually lose thermal capacity, not improve it. Unless you are ready to drop major coin on a real BBK, it' best to upgrade the stock rotors, pads, lines, and fluid and keep the OEM calipers. Racingbrake makes a good two-piece rotor setup in stock fitment that will significantly improve cooling capacity and reduce weight. Just make sure to use compatible (read: abrasive) pads with their harder rotor material. |

Do you track? Street only? Ambient temps where you live? Winter performance considerations? Do you care about noise or dust, or do you want outright thermal stability and friction at all costs?

Read my sig, I already posted up sites on where to get the parts and save a ton of money.
The car has a lot of braking power and stops great in all conditions. Not only does it look good, it performs without any noise or excessive dust. I can enjoy the powerful setup daily, while also having the stopping power that I need for the weekend 1/4 mile runs Research prices and reviews, I really do not think you will find a cheaper and more quality pad than the AXXIS Ults. I also stand behind DBA4000 rotors. It's either that or PowerSlot which I am told is now owned by StopTech.

As you can see, brakes are like hot women- everybody has an opinion and no one is really wrong.
Most important thing is to understand how your pad selection matches up with your needs. If you are a track day junkie your pad needs are going to be very very different than the person who just wants a long lasting setup for commuting, and doesn't squeal at all. In fact, so-called "aggressive street" driving can have so many meanings it's a laughable nomenclature. Here's what it comes down to: 1) Are you ok with squeal, and if so, how much? 2) Are you ok with dust, and if so, how much? 3) Do you race? 4) Do you need immediate, full-friction in near-freezing temps? The answers to these questions really affect what you should look at in terms of a "street" or "aggressive/track" pad. As for rotors, just buy a trusted name brand and you will be fine. The ones mentioned on this thread already are all acceptable. And make sure to replace the fluid with something decent, like ATE, Motul 5.1 if you street or RBF600 if you track. |
