Title says it, I recently bought and installed a 6000k HID conversion kit for my fog lights and it looks like it doesn't match... Is this what 6000k should look like? I looked at the color chart and it looks more like 8000k. I purchased the kit from highperformancebulbs.com

Yes 6000k has a blue hue. 5000k, which is what LUX is I beleive, is pure white with a VERY SLIGHT blue hue.

I was hearing that lux 5.0 is 6000k and lux 5.1 is 6500k

Hmm you're right. I just looked on Marc's website and it is advertised as 6500k.

From the pictures and from the LUX units I have installed in other peoples car, I would say 5000k is a better match.

Did you HID bulbs have a white or blue rod? If they were white, than it's 6K. Blue would be 8K.

I got them professionally installed, how hard would it be to remove the bulb so I can see the rod?

You can just look at your fog lights; the blubs are exposed within the enclosure.

LEDs are on a slightly different kelvin scale than HIDs. Since LUXs match with the factory lights pretty damn well, I would've suggested to get 4300k(4350k?) HID Fogs which would match both. So although the LUXs are rated at 6000k, that does not mean 6000k HID fogs will match

I've heard that the design of the angel eye rings make the light color appear slightly warmer than the output rating. While this may be untrue, it would explain this phenomena. The LUX's LED's are rated at 6000-6500K, and the fog lights are rated at 6000K. I'd guesstimate that the angel eyes right now are around 5000K, and as such, the fogs don't quite match.

Spot on as usual. Kelvin temperatures can rarely be exchanged between manufacturer to manufacturer let alone LED to HID.

The 6000K HID always have a tint of blue. OP you are looking for pure white you should look into the 4000-4300K range.

You guys are saying that the kelvin scale for LEDs and HID are different?

I'm pretty sure there is only one kelvin scale.

Either the vendors are mis advertising or there really is more than one kelvin scale....which again I doubt because that would make measurements very confusing to measure.



If you want a cool white, go for 5000k. If you want a warm white, go for 4300k, which is OEM.

On the side of the box there is a spectrum of kelvin temperature colors.... 6000k was exactly spot on in the middle of the white part and 8000k was white/blue. So when I went to install them I assumed they would be pure white, this advertisement is ridiculous... FTC here I come.

I have their 4300K fog light kit, matches my LED angel eyes that are 6000K. I think the fiber optic in the angel eyes tones down the blue output a bit. Why did you buy 6000K? Do you have 6000K headlights? BMW uses 4300K HID bulbs, blue color is due to refraction of the light going through the projector lens.

Remember those science classes in high school with the prism? When light bends some of the color gets separated out. Same reason our sky is blue, the sunlight coming into the atmosphere bends causing the sky to appear blue.

Stock BMW factory HID is 4300 Kelvin, like most vehicle stock.
If you wanted to match your Low beam or your angel eyes that match stock lights you should have purchased 4300K. The LED kelvin temperature is likely accurate but as the above poster mentioned the refraction through the angel housing tones down the blue making it look like a warm white. No manufacturer is at fault here either lux or HPB.

HPB and LUX service is top notch by the way.

Thanks for the whole explanation I should've done more research before jumping the gun.

Do you have pics of your angel eye/fog light setup at night? I want to see how it looks so I know if its worth it to purchase new 4300k HID bulbs

HPB service is top notch by the way.

Their phone system is down due to hurricane Irene apparently so that explains the phone thing, and I have to agree about the service, I finally received an email today and they are very quick at responsing and it seems like they really care.

Once you get them on email, things work quickly. I'm surprised that you didn't get the 4300K setup. There are some extensive and multiple threads that recommend the 4300k set (perfect match btw).

Take some updated pics when you get it all sorted out.
