New Rims...Bad Vibration???
Hey guys just put on a pair of XXR 006 RIMS on my 2007 335i with sport package.... I am no getting a vibration most noticably that starts around 80 MPH and only gets worse as the speed increases. Is it possible that I need a hub ring in these??? Or do you think that the wheels just need to be rebalanced?
Figured I'd start with the re balance and go from there. Any help would be appreciated! http://www.xxrwheels.com/sportmax_006.shtml |

Are the wheels hubcentric? Do they sit nicely on the "lip" when putting them on? If it was a balancing problem then it should show up at low speeds as well just not as bad. Could be tires. Did you get them balanced before putting them on?

Wheels were balanced, however I am going to re balance them to be on the safe side. Tires are brand new Toyo's. Vibration is most noticeable between 80-100 however it is barely there from 60+ Last edited by Kennedy; 08-14-2010 at 03:45 PM.. |

hub centric or not will make a difference.
Also vibration at above 70mph usually tends to be the balancing. As charles mentioned, i would check the hub diameter to make sure that they are hub centric. If not, you can always purchase the rings to make them. If they are still off, even though, they are hub centric, i would be inclined to think that they are not balanced right or that the wheels have a run off issue (not perfectly circular).

Well guys took it to a reputable tire place on the way in to work...turns out the rear hubs do not have enough lip to fit the rims and make them sit flush....the guys suggested either getting a 1/8" spacer built to put in and there should be no problems....They spun the wheel by hand to show me how bad of a wobble it was!!! Crazy!! They said that I was lucky the lug nuts didn't loosen up on me yet!
Anyone know where I can find 1/8" spacers? Thanks to all for the help, much appreciated! |

I think the reason they are saying that, is because the wheel center bore must be smaller than the hub size. (example rims hub 70 and car hub 72.6) if this is the case you should really think twice before using these wheels. Let hope is not

Does this still sound odd? I will be taking pictures tomorrow with better detail. For now here is a rough sketch depicting the problem to my understanding. Last edited by Kennedy; 08-17-2010 at 11:10 PM.. |

It sounds like you are saying the car's hub lip sticks so far out that the wheel doesnt sit flush against the rotor and they installed a spacer to fill in the gap. Was that spacer hub centric? Did it have a lip that fits snugly onto the wheel? Does the fronts have the same fitment problem?
The wheels appear to not be made for your car. |
