Just wanted to let you guys know, my car no longer misfires and the problem was the plugs. I looked up the spark plug color chart and found this to be called Ash Fouled plugs... I guess it happens when you run race fuels...
A build-up of combustion deposits stemming primarily from the burning of oil and/or fuel additives during normal combustion ... normally non-conductive. When heavier deposits are allowed to accumulate over a longer mileage period, they can "mask" the spark, resulting in a plug misfire condition. |

So does that mean you are no longer going to run 100 octane, or are you just going to change the plugs more often to compensate?

Im looking into water/meth to make 91 into 100oct... nothing too fancy just something to raise octane. For now i will keep running 100oct and change plugs after around 8k miles...

I bought the spark plugs from my local dealer and the spark plug tool from turner motorsports. I got a torque wrench off ebay along with a 12" 3/8" extension for the wrench... This is all you need along with some sockets for the cowl and cabin filter. The coils are a biatch but you have to pull them out and they will come out but they need some brute force...

look if you dont use race gas and you dont drive the car to death then your plugs can last over 50k without misfiring. I wouldn't change them unless theres a reason to do it... These are not $4 plugs...

its not hard guys.. take off the microfilter housing which im sure 90% of u guys have done to install the procede, xede, or whatever. take off the 4 allen bolts for the engine cover, flip the lock up for the coil plug, slide the coil plug off and pull the coil up.. loosen the spark plug and put the new one in... pretty straight forward...

Hmm, I wonder if the way Direct Injection dilutes oil could have some effect on this? Were you burning any oil?
I know some RS4 guys had this kind of problem with their plugs because of high fuel dilution in the oil. They had better luck after switching to a higher quality ester-based synthetic. Audi and BMW have both offered entirely inapropriate oils for DI engines. |

Ive got 73k miles on my plugs but its only a 330i not a 335 I got my plugs from Crown auto $80 shipped. I am changing them this morning, because my gas milage has gone down a little and I am getting a slight miss at idle every once in a while.
