Any way to disable real time traffic?

When I drive through LA, I am constantly in highway traffic. So far, I have found the following two options:

1. Have the navi continuously re-route me while I ignore it and stay on the freeway.
2. Disable the auto re-route and have the re-route screens (and voice!) repeatedly pop-up and suggest re-routes.

Is there a third or fourth option I am missing? Short of turning off the navigation directions, is there any way to completely disable RTTI it while I drive through areas I am familiar with?

maybe I'm retarded, but is there a way to have the real time traffic actually display ON the route / roads? For example, a light / no traffic road would be highlighted in green, and a stop-and-go traffic road would be highlighted in red.

It's in the manual...If you've enabled RRTI, traffic is displayed on the roads in the form of triangles along the route. For example, several black triangles indicate slow traffic etc.

Agreed, color coding parts of the road would have been more clear.

Are the triangles a function of iDrive or the Navteq DVD? Just wondering as maybe Navteq could update the disc or BMW could include color coding in a Progman update. Wishful thinking... I wont hold my breath.

Unfortunately it's all BMW or whoever is designing the Navi software for them. (they need to take a good hard look at improving functionality...)

Navteq provides the static road data in the DVD, real time traffic info comes in via RF (radio) from Clear Channel.
