Im not sure if this has been covered before but has anyone use their products before? It looks like the same stuff that BMW dealership use for paint protection.

After spending over $500 going completely nut on detailing stuff I am starting to think that maybe this colour shield would have been a better alternative. It does not need to re-apply as often as wax and polish and is relatively cheaper to use too.

The website also argues that wax is a softer compund that can be soften with heat (ie 35degree heat in the sunshine state) so u will ending sticking on to dirt and other nasty stuff.

Any comments?

Wash and maintain the paint properly using only good specialist products i.e. lambs wool mit, high end wash to avoid swirling (and the occasional clay if required) and....

apply a high quality sealant 3-4 times a year and you are as good as you can get. That's what professionals and enthusiasts do worldwide (NB: some still prefer the wax finish but that’s taste and requires more frequent applications and more effort and does not give better protection).

Anything claiming to be better is likely a gimmick IMO and will still be ruined by poor washing technique/products.

PS: It is amazing how many fine cars paint work is now quickly ruined by using the hot wash system - especially those foaming brushes. I won't let one of those near my paint work EVER.

I dont mean to start a debate here but could it be that paint protection product such as colour shield does work but it is the big companies such as Meguire and others that spend much more money on marketing that want to convince u that, cutting, waxing and polishing is best method to look after ur car so they can keep making their money.

Sh!t, i could piss so many ppl for saying what i just said.

Please dont ban me from this site. Please be assure, im standing in netural ground coz I too have spend money on paint protection on cars when new, and also have recently spend money again on getting the right gear to look after the car. Just cant work out which one is the better way.

Perhaps...but IMO the best gauge is 1. results (and I'm happy with the above and actually enjoy it) and 2. what do the professionals and guys who concourse their cars etc do.

Yea, ur right, paint protection may not give u as fine finish (ie gloss and smoothness) compared to waxing and polishing but it is not too bad.

I just might give it the colour shield a crack. But i need to use up all the product i brought in the last week.

Everyone u speak to tells u different thing. So i ended up buying too much. I did not end up getting the professional stuff from Waxit etc (which i should talked to before i went on a shopping spree). Most of the stuff is from Autobarn at Slacks Creek and Supercheap.

I guess i wont need to buy anything for the next year or two. That why it got me thinking that maybe the colour shield is a better option at less than $200 for a set. Cost less for ur pocket and u save more time coz u do not need to do it every 3-4 month.

Gee, going down this dark alley of detailing seems like a black hole now...

I'm using P21s paintwork cleanser and polish then a coat of P21s carnauba wax and it brings my colour right out and looks deep
Excellent stuff.
Very easy to apply and polish off,available from waxit at lawnton.

what high quality sealant is available in oz/sydney area?

i went with the dealer-provided paint protection mainly for the warranty (they fixed everything up after and reapplied as necessary). the warranty is ending 2010 and i'd like to decide whether to get a reapplication (another 5 year warranty) or go other method.

I use Final Inspection's paint sealant (called FI seal) on my baby. Then once a month I top it up with Optimum Car Wax (OCW) which is a spray and wipe wax/sealant hybrid.

Both products (oh and oh so more goodies) can be purchased online from http://www.finalinspection.com.au/store/

The site also has a web forum where you can get answers to any detailing questions you have. But be warned, like Sam said earlier in the thread, you can easily find yourself sucked into the never ending, wonderfully rewarding , obsessive compulsive fulfilling, "black hole" of car detailing.

what he said...damian is a top bloke. you'll find lots of helpful advice abt car detailing!

personally ive been using opti-seal for our BMWs, it is so easy to apply and top it up with OCW every now and then.
