Water pump: Kaboom
So I am driving East bound QEW just about to get on the Skyway bridge and get a yellow warning that quickly turns red...left lane driving 120 km/h...cut across and pull over shut off the car and get it towed...water pump goes bye bye...perfect timing:no warning...

Damn..sorry to hear. I just bought a spare waterpump and thermostat 2 weeks ago since I was in the states. Picked it up in case I get situations like this.
Do you plan on getting it fixed at the dealer? |

Cost me $475 with free shipping in the states. This includes the waterpump, thermostat and all the bolts.

This happened to me too, but luckily i was not on the highway, but local streets and I just turned in to a neighbourhood area to shut off the engine.
I didn't want to travel to the states, so I paid Mike at Maranello BMW a visit. all of the parts (pump, tstat, Al screws) costed me 650 tax included, and the "rebate" when you return your old water pump. If you travel to the states, or its convenient for you to go there, the getbmwparts is definitely cheaper. |

2006, 109 km...I couldn't believe it, I thought that it would last 120km like my E46 330i did before it blew...

I was going to tow it to Bimmersport, but they open on Monday, so I towed it back to my parents house since I was visiting them...I may just have to tow it to Budds on the mountain...so now I am driving my Bro's R32

Are you aware of BMW service packages? Just an FYI, WP+labor is $672 at BMW http://crm.bmw.ca/microsites/aftersa...P.aspx?lang=en Or you can get water pump from Mike @ Maranello (with maxbimmer discount). It's probably under $400

Surprisingly enough dealer can do parts+labour almost as competitively as Indy shop.
Depends on what it is though... I know a clutch kit or water pump replacement they are literally doing it at cost. So you'll be right on the $$ with Indy shop...difference is they'll say they can't do this or that ... They wanted to "machine" my FW which I know for them means sanding it and throwing it back in. Not acceptable in my books. I got it machined at Mr.Transmission and beautiful work they did Paid just under $1000 at Ivo's |
