HEADUNIT

So, IF I buy a headunit from a scrap yard, how to I enable it to work on my car? Is it hard?

99% of the time you need to code it to your car.
If you have a professional headunit; then get a prefoessional headunit to match it as close as possible.

I suggest getting Protool by BimmerGeeks. It's an Android app with no subscription and not VIN locked.

You default/factory code the radio module/headunit and it will read the car's VO (Vehicle Order) and apply the correct settings to the radio.

And I suggest joining their FB group since that's where their support is and the community support is great too.

Does your current car has CIC in it? If you are retrofitting iDrive then it's a different story. There are threads here on how to DIY retrofit iDrive. But it's completely different from just replacing the headunit with a new/used one.

Well, I'm not sure it's that simple of a swap, but hopefully it is.
Wish you luck and please post back so others can benefit from your adventure.
