Popped out for another little drive today, hadn't used the car for a few days mainly because my fuel card is still registered to the 330d.

Light throttle is something I can't get my head around as to whether it's normal.

So low speeds - say starting off exiting a junction for example, edge forward to look and the car barely moves. Little more and it surges forward, almost spinning the wheels. Is the thing this sensitive? My 330d is completely different!!

And on higher speeds. Cruising along - light throttle just to keep it going it almost hesitates when one lifts and then to counter this a little more gas makes it accelerate more aggressively than you might want when just trying to drive smooth. Do I just need to get used to it ? Or is this a walnut blasting job?

Doesn't sound normal to me and certainly won't get cured by walnut blasting.

Is it manual or auto?

Auto. What my thought process is that I think the wastegate control rod needs a little slack taking up. So when it's running idle / low RPM there's gas escaping via the flap, then when you push the throttle a little more the gate probably closes and the increased RPM means more gas and hence the turbo spins quickly suddenly. Might explain it!

I would suggest re-calibrating/resetting your throttle pedal adaptation.

I'm sure if you google it you will find out how to.

Update : It's fixed :-)

working from home so took a look under the bonnet. Looked at the vacuum hoses and one of them was routed such that the it was too tightly turning and I reckon the thing was restricting air flow like a kinked hosepipe would. Loosened it off a bit and re-secured it in the clip. Car drives really smoothly! I love it when it's a simple thing...
