335i HELP & INFO
Hey peeps,
Its been a while since I last posted on E90POST, sold my 320D M sport 18 months ago and have missed it like crayzzeeeee since! So this weekend I put a deposit on a 335i M sport in Sapphire Black with Lemon leather (Spec sheet shows £6815.00 worth of extras too Im picking it up in 11hours to be exact!!!! Just wanted to ask a few Questions really...... -Car has 112K with full BMW history, is there anything problems I should be aware of with the 335i? -Next main dealer service is due in December, however I was going to go to my Indy this week and just get a basic service, anything in particular I should get done apart form the obvious? On my 320D there was this breather filter which I read up on and was told to replace on E90POST and FML what a difference to MPG that made! -Realistically what MPG should I expect? Its an Auto Gearbox with Paddle shift.... I was originally looking for another 320D or maybe even a 330D, however I got a boner when I saw this 335i and couldn't not say no! As always I thankyou my fellow BMW drivers and I look forward to your replies. Jesse ZimmerZimmer is online now Report Post |

Listen out for wastegate rattles and look for smoking exhausts.
MPG depending on driving style, low to mid 20's or high 20's if driving like Miss Daisy

Great choice buddy, you won't regret it.
Had my 335i Touring for a month now and love the thing. Since I picked it up I've averaged 24.5mpg, including a blat over to Amsterdam a few weekends back. One of the things I was told to look out for was High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) issues. Apparently they are the 335i's achilles heal so see if it's been changed in it's history. I don't know if there is an uprated part available but it's on my list of things to upgrade. |

Ignition coils can go. The car will stutter then go in to limp home mode.
These are not that expensive but labour may be. Turbos and HPFP can also go. But iv not had this personally. |

What kind of sound should I listen out for in regards to the Wastegate and when would this happen? (gear change/harsh acceleration) Some people are saying the MPG isn't as bad as some people make out, I just hope fuelling doesn't cripple me.....lol |

I read up on the HPFP, and its something I hope and pray that I wont encounter whilst I own and love my 335i.
112k, isn't HIGH, but is above average and doesn't worry me toooo much I suppose. I've taken out the BMW driveline warranty which was on the car but fully transferrable at around £55.00 a month, this covers me for Engine components and also I get breakdown cover included. Would the HPFP be covered in this does anyone know? It is part of the fuel system which does to the engine.... Anyone got any feedback on the BMW Driveline warranty (this is the lower tear out of the 3 warranty's BMW do) |

From what I gather, wastegate rattle is at worst, annoying - not fatal. Performance is not affected.
So, I wouldn't be overly concerned about that. Lots of the faults listed were more common on the early models (ie: 2007-2008), so what age is yours? MPG - I've managed low 30's on motorway runs (32-34), usually on work business, so not in a fantastic rush to break the speed limit, and I just trundle along at circa 70mph. Around town it's somewhere between 18-22mpg. Last edited by Russbmw; 09-30-2013 at 07:42 AM.. |

A JB4 G5 will fix/hide your wastegate rattle (within reason). Also put a huge smile on your face. One of the best things I did to my 335i is loose the front cats.
I can get 38mpg on a good run. I got this when I plodded down to see Makkan for my Alpina flash (you should also get this) But you should expect an average in the high 20's. I have had no problems with mine as yet (touches wood) but all the major known issues have been mentioned. WM |

I wouldn't worry too much about HPFP in the UK. It seems to be more of an issue in the USA and somewhat related to poor quality fuel. Use premium fuel and you should be ok.
I think people on this UK forum have had more issues with other items on those lists. |

Its a 2007 and is ready for collection, however I finish work at 5pm, so will be straight down to pick it up. People are starting to scare me a little now, I don't want to buy a 335i and be forever spending money on the car |

The for sale page here. With a little description. It transforms the drive of the car. With more power coming in earlier. There is tons of info out there with regards to the JB4. Loads of the guys on here with 335i are running it. And another website dedicated to tuning the engine. I'll try a link but you may have to google it yourself... http://www.n54tech.com/forums/ WM |

I've got a huge smile on my face right now! 335I M sport will be in my Grips in 4 hours, hut who's counting hey?
JB4 seems like a miracle from god himself! lol So this is just a simple plug in and go, not other mods or parts needs replacing? you know im going to ask......Any negative effects on the engines? Can BMW detect it for warranty purposes? |

The engine can deal with it easily. The turbos on the engine are barely working at stock. I wouldn't worry too much about some of the issues, it can be the of the draw for some of these things. However with a lot of miles on the car, the engine is probably in better condition than people who do a 4/5 mile trip a day but only have 20k on the clock. You have the driveline warranty so I think you are covered for the important parts (turbos).
For that mileage I'd probably make sure you change the oil every 8k or so though, unless you want it to last a BMW lifetime (That's the lifetime they want it to last so you have to keep buying new cars ) And apart from that, just look after it. Let the oil warm before you floor it. Leave the engine running for a minute once you have finished your journey to give the turbos a chance to cool down etc. And most important of all, make sure you do thrash it from time to time |
