Anyone driven the new M5?
One of these showed up at my local dealer today. It looks so nice but I'm not sure I can handle the harsh suspension anymore vs say a non-M 5 series. I'm in a 2015 CP and the ride is wearing me out. I must be getting old.

The M550 is for those who want cushy luxury and a crazy fast highway missle. The M5 is overkill unless you will drive it hard in the canyons or take it to the occasional track. Some will just want to have the “best” or most expensive 5 series. To each, his/her own.

Most reviews have said the new car is significantly softer and more compliant in comfort. No personal experience to add yet though

The M5 wasn't out when I got my M550 (after coming out of the last gen E63S). It also gave me a nice combo of luxury and performance. And for some that is exactly what they want. In fact - I enjoyed the luxury so much, I was more attentive to how well the M5 rides versus its all out performance as I am fortunate to race other cars. Not everyone wants the highest end performance variant - and instead may want that "goldilocks" zone of comfort and speed - which is why BMW makes them. I specifically write - "why BMW makes them" - because as much as we are enthusiasts and enjoy the brand - it is their company. And when they stick an "Mxxx" on the car - they can do that (versus someone sticking a "M" on their own car - THAT would be a wannabe). Also - as to "track" capability - although the new M5 can certainly be driven on a track and enjoyed doing so - ANY 4300+ four door car is not really a track car. The tires, and brakes will scream and complain the entire ride as you cannot hide that kind of heft no matter the horsepower and solid chassis/suspension. It is really an exec GT car - that is an all rounder - just more performance set than the M550ix. |

I love luxury (over performance) and test drove the M550 last year but decided to simply wait for the M5 to come out because I saw M5 as the ultimate luxury and performance. To me M550 is a "great value" car that has M like amenities. However at the end of the day, it is no M and I didn't want to pay that much for a "fake M" |

What neither of us have a say in however - is what BMW denotes an M car as that is their call being the company that produces, markets and sells them. |

The M550 was super cushy though - and I'm not going to expect the same in the F90. But as long as it is long haul reasonable as the reviewers and yourself have stated - I am good - especially for the extra pep. |
