BMW Performance Exhaust & Air Intake - Updated Pics!!

Got them both installed on friday!

First Impressions

When I first sat inside, I thought... EH!? Can't really hear much.. Its only when you stand outside you and give it some gas!!
It has a nice rumble at idle and progressively turns into a mechanical rasp as the revs rise. I honestly thought it was going to be a very conservative upgrade, like your standard accessories range exhaust. Wonderful!

The intake isn't exactly in CSL territory but it does give the engine a sound more akin to BMW's of old. More pronounced inside the cabin and out.

On The Road

Inside the cabin, you can only hear a slight rumble from the back and under acceleration the engine is certainly more aural thanks to the intake. When you inch the window down a notch the sound is fantastic! The higher the revs rise, you can always hear the exhaust no matter how fast you are going. Its by no means chav'fords loud, it sounds more like a extension of the engine now rather than just an exit for gaseous waste!
The engine feels more responsive than before, notably the revs tend to rise much quicker. Not sure how many horses the products have added, but it is definitely more urgent.

Although I haven't heard it drive past while standing on the street, the dealer was adamant it is more akin to a 335i sound

The quality of the intake and exhaust is as good as you'd expect from BMW, not to mention they look ace! The exhaust tips are surprisingly larger than I expected to be honest, so may to be to everyones taste. All in all I wouldn't change anything, a perfect combination.

Here's some pics.. sorry bout the quality, they're taken from my phone. Will put better ones up tomorrow!

Is this a full replacement exhaust system? Or "just" a new backbox. Interested by this...

Thanks! It cost me just under £900 incl. installation from BMW. Luckily they were kind enough to waive the labour cost as a goodwill gesture for buying BMW's from the same place for 26 years! Will put some more pics up in the morning

It includes the backbox and the pipes going underneath the car... not sure what the proper name for them is though

Thanks guys,

I too was really surprised with the size! But I've got used to seeing them now, and they sound great.

Just looked under the car to make sure BMW haven't scammed me on the tips, and they look ok, albeit some UGLY welds!..

Nah don't think I'll bother with debadging it, wanna keep something factory on the car!
Had great fun on the ring with it, managed to keep up and overtake a couple of R32's although they might not have been going as fast as they couldve! All in all really impressed, before I go back might fit larger brakes cos last time they got cooked after every lap

Have you been there yet?

Nice one mate. R32s are slow, theyre just too heavy for the power they have. together with the 4wd drivetrain its so 'flat'. i loved mine in every other aspect but i was always underwhelmed at the lack of grunt after a while

No ambitions to 'Ring' mine yet. Might actually take the plunge and get the LSD once and for all now im keeping the car thats amongst the rattling are the most frustrating things with our cars

Yeh, I saw the same effect with the R32's on the track. They had to slow down a lot more coming into the corners compared to me and once out, they would only ever so slowly pull away. Definitely didn't seem like 250bhp to me...

I guess if you are serious on getting a fast lap, an LSD is essential. Or of course theres no harm going down there and having fun; LSD or not!

yeah...R32 are slow man....if you're talking about the volkswagen ones...and not the nissan skyline R32s...

Honda Integras will smoke those little volkswagen R32 ...check out some videos on you tube and you'll see...

You shouldn't have any problems with them ...definitely you'll take them on corners even though ours are rear wheel drive...the R32s don't handle that great...and you'll probably eat them for breakfast on a drag...

I don't know, I've owned them all and while the MK5 R32 is a bit bland the Mk4 wasn't. I've seen a std Mk4 R32 pull 13.9 up the strip a SP. They do 14.4 normally.

In the dry the BMW will probably win but in the wet or slippery conditions Haldex 4WD is pretty impressive when you know how to use it, unlike Torsen 4WD which is alwasy impressive in terms of grip but a tad unsatisfying drive*.... you can get the rear out with Haldex and drive it like RWD!!

Thats said, overall BMWs have the better weigh balance and an LSD should give them a wee bit mreo edge. the R32 should've had 300 with that massive V6 in it, 250hp wasn't really enough.

* - mind you my last Torsen 4WD car was a 1988 Audi 80 Quattro.

hmmmm...maybe its just me. never been a fan of GTIs and R32s.
Would choose Nissan/ Honda over them...if I had to chose.

but 1 st choice at my budget, for the time being will be 335 i!!!

Don't think it will be biased....Integras r track cars....altho they r just engine in tin boxes! lol

hey i didn't kno bmw had another department, called the bmw performance!!!...i thought the only option was going for an M....

The induction kit is lookin really good....I've always been a big fan of induction kits!...altho loads of people complain about heat soaked...but i like the sound from an aftermarket induction kit....

the good thing about this one, is its made by BMW...and you can get the dealer to fit it...no warranty issues or peace of mind hopefully...
