Can stock alarm give audio confirms?

Is there a setting that makes the car 'honk' or 'beep' or otherwise provide any kind of audio confirm when arming and disarming with factory alarm? Only my lights flash currently. 08 e90 w/out Nav or idrive. Thx

Do you actually have the OEM alarm installed? If so, why the dealer did not activate its audible notification at programming? Did you ask for that feature?

If you have the OEM alarm you can configure lights or a chirp or both when activating and deactivating the alarm. Without iDrive this can be accessed via the config menu on the turn signal stalk.

I have the OEM alarm.

-Did not know audio signal was dealer-activated option...dealer did not mention and was not mentioned in owner's manual

-I went thru the config options via the control stalk countless times and just could not find the option/icons that corresponded to the audio signal. Which menu option is this?

Thanks!

The audio signal is not a dealer activated option. You can set it yourself in the turn signal stalk accessed menu - the same you where you set DRLs etc. I think it's the menu with key and check mark symbol. You can check the manual to verify.

Here is the link to the E92 manual - see page 19. I had the OEM alarm on my previous car, an '06 E90, and it worked the same as this.

Thanks for the link. Just went down to my car and - would you believe - it's actually MISSING the audio option! Just "off" or "lights" for the confirmation. My own manual describes the audio option but my car's menu simply doesn't offer the choice!

Would anyone know if BMW removed this for 08 models? I can't believe they did.

Also is the red LED below the rearview mirror supposed to blink when the car is locked via the key, cause mine doesn't.

Thanks!

Either there's no OEM alarm installed or it is not activated...

Rather, the "chirp" is not turned on (exactly the way I prefer it to be). In fact, the alarm starts working right after all its components get plugged in - no "activation" is necessary (if the car's F/W supports the alarm - otherwise an upgrade is needed).

Did you pay extra for the alarm?

I think it wasn't activated by the dealer, just found this was needed via search. Thanks for the help!

That sounds like it could be the issue, as the red light on the mirror not blinking should be a dead giveaway! I know on my '06 the dealer did have to update the software as part of the activation...

I'll be getting the alarm installed on my '08 in a few weeks, so I do hope they didn't dispense with the chirp / beep...

Having just installed an alarm myself a few weeks ago on my 09 335i, here are some observations:

1. The alarm DOES need to be activated after install for it to work properly.
2. The menu item to enable/disable the chirping does not appear until it is activated.
3. Interesting, the clown nose on the mirror DOES blink when the doors are locked even without activation.

If there is no blinking when locked, I would suspect that the alarm is either not installed or misinstalled.

That's just not correct.

Technic is absolutely right - the alarm in most cases is installed at the dealer, and must be enabled via FW. It is not an embedded system.

I have the same car as yours that came with dealer installed OEM alarm and have no problem.
Go back to your dealer or any BMW dealer I guess and have them fix it.
