lease/exhaust question

so question is if im leasing my n55 and I chopped up my stock exhaust. i know when I turn in my car everything has to be stock so I bought another full stock n55 exhaust but it is just taking up to much space in my garage do you think if I weld everything back together on the one that I cut up and turn it in that way would it be a problem? everything will be stock but just welded back together.

Modifying a lease is a dumb idea. This thread proves it.

That said, nobody is going to get under the car and look at your exhaust when you turn the car in. If it sounds right and looks right from 20 feet away, you're good.

Theyll immediately notice it the second the car goes on lift for an oil change or whatever, you dont own the car so you have no right to be chopping up the exhaust. Keep the other exhaust.
Chances are they wont care, but trust me if they charge you for a new oem exhaust, youre really out of luck.

IMO, you'll be fine if you put the stock pieces on the car. Just don't say anything obviously.

hmmm well I've done a few mods but I have kept all original parts. everything that I have done are bolt ons so everything can go back, but I guess I'll keep the stock exhaust for when I need to turn it back in... lol

No problem. The exhaust is the easiest thing to swap next to wheels. I say go for it and just find a new stock one or keep your old one and find a new one.

Why? I mod my car.. Everything can be sold at the lease end or transfered to the next car. I see no problem.

If it just the mufflers you will be fine. The mufflers have to be cut off in order to change them if the flap goes bad, so you have nothing to worry about. They wont think twice about it if they see a clamp at the mufflers.

If youve chopped up your complete exhaust, then yes, keep the spare one.

For what it's worth when I turned my last lease in they did put it on a lift for the inspection while we were doing the paperwork to get another. They actually had the audacity to mention a scrape on the underside of the exhaust on the mid cats on the lease report, no charge just noted it.

AS long as it's modded in a way that it can be turned back to OEM, you're fine

If you're taking to the car to Dealer that's okay with mods on a Leased vehicle, just make sure you have some do a quality install on exhaust. If done right, it'll be like some1 chopped out the OEM exhaust & replaced it with a BMW PE

I agree. Nothing is wrong with modding a lease. People say you don't "own" the car but it's similiar in "ownership" as one who is financing their car. They don't own the car until it is fully paid off, the bank does.

Nobody is going to know when you return the lease. But when they do an inspection to CPO it or just resell it they will notice and will likely change it back to stock on their dime, or leave it as is and hope the new customer doesn't know. It's not necessarily a modification that will inhibit a danger to a new customer.

Typically a lease return, has a basic inspection, if any damage is done to the car you are by contract obligated to pay a difference.

As far as modifications go it depends. Most of the time they dont care cause it can be returned to stock.
