some say that vinyl stais on 5 years and looks like new, especially vinyl from shadowline company, i used my local tape from some publicity agent maybe not good tape but some corners a little peel off, tape was also needed to use with hot fan air cos to keep it stronger on a trim

I don't think I sanded well enough even though I spent like an hour on just that process. Also during the peeling of the tape I had a few spots that tore, and the touch up paint didn't hold up at all. I peeled the top part off but left the bottom window sill alone as it's holding up quite nicely. Honestly i'm really liking the look of the aluminum upper/black lower. I did a photoshoot last night so i'll post up a picture when I get off work.

I wish I would have seen this DIY before I ripped my (still sitting in the garage) trim off as I can not get the bottom front pieces back on! major PITA!

I'm really enjoying the single bit of aluminum. The blacked out lowers really match up nicely with the rubber around the windows, so the aluminum doesn't seem as overdone as it did before. Just a matter of time before it's all blacked out again though.

Yeah it does look good, If you don't want to paint again then just vinyl the top and see how it comes out. And when you peeled the tape off did you make sure you took the razor blade and cut the places where the paint was webbed to the tape?

Yea I went around the whole trim with the razor before I started peeling, to no avail.

Using my fingers, it peeled away just like vinyl. I'm not fretting about it, it was a fun project, just didn't turn out quite right for me. Glad others are having success though!

Gotta chip
I just wanted to say I got my first chip b/c my friend threw his bag in and hit it and scratched it.
A touch up brush and break out the can of paint. And VOILA! Thats the advantage of painting your trim this way.

Decided that I wanted my trim black, but did not want to wrap it due to bad reviews, so i settled for painting it.Cheapest quote i had was $200. While deciding between wrapping and painting, i stumble upon this DIY on painting the trim on e90post about 2 months ago and i followed the instruction. I did a roll coat, then brush, then roll, and lastly brush

^^Good to see yours turned out good. It has now been over a year since I have done mine and I had one more tiny chip last week and I touched it up the same way as I showed that last one and it's looking fine.

To everyone who has done this:
1) How long ago did you do it? 2) How does it look? I'm thinking about doing this soon, but I'll likely remove the top piece of my chrome to save on masking/mess.
