Amp going in protect mode

Im currently running 2 12" kicker cvrs with a kicker zx750 amp. Its working fine except sometimes at high volumes my amp will go into protection mode for a few seconds and turn off then come right back on again. My wiring is good and is amp isnt hot at all so im guessing its just not getting enough voltage supply. Would getting a capacitor help with this situation ?

Capacitors rarely do any good, they probably wont help you at all. Where did you ground your amp to? And whats the gain set at? Is the amp hot enough that you cant keep your hand on it?

Amp is grounded in the middle right behind back seats really good, amp gain knob is really low its set at 10 o clock, as well as bass. Hits really good except for going into protect mode every now and then for a few seconds. Amp is not hot at all so it cant be a overheating issue. Dont know what it could be except for needing a capacitor.

You might want to try grounding directly to the battery. And also if you could check the voltage when the amp cuts out that would be good. I dont see voltage being a problem though because your amp is only 750 watts RMS and that shouldn't be enough to make your voltage drop low enough to put the amp in protect mode.

Your alternator will not provide 14.7 volts when you start up. It takes a good 20 seconds for my car to reach 14.7v.

If it's only at start up, this may be your problem.

And where exactly did you ground "in the middle right behind back seats?" Did you strip the paint off? If any. Also if you're too lazy to move the ground then how are we suppose to help you?

Was cruising today then amp suddenly died. Usually amp has a green light then turns red when entering protection mode. lights just turned off...

Well that might be the problem make sure all your wires are still hooked up and your fuses are still good if that doesn't help find a better ground (straight to battery is best) if your too lazy to try to fix the problem then you shouldn't be asking for help.

yeah, fuse was out. aluminum fuse couldnt handle all the power i guess. switched to a metal fuse and everythings fine and dandy now.

I had the exact same problem with my Vette and my kicker amp. I had it grounded just fine, but apparently the kicker wasn't satisfied. Ran the ground all the way to the battery, and it fixed the problem. Although, you are in luck, since your amp is probably in the trunk... Same place as the battery if you don't want to run all the wires.... A least test it out with a temporary cable, and crank it to 11 to see if it works. Let us know how you make out.

Yep. amp cutting out at high volumes was due to bass and gain set way too high. blown fuse was cause of no power obviously. so i turned down the gain just a notch to where it wont cut out, still plenty of bass to make car alarms go off from afar. very happy and suprised with what im getting out of these cvrs. hopefully in the future i can upgrade to the jl w7s
