After 30 minutes of searching I gave up...sorry. What years come with the 8 bolt and what years with the 6 bolt? Or is it a 335i vs 335is thing? Please explain.

I just ordered a spec II+ hybrid and got an 8 bolt and want to make sure i have the right part before install. I know i've seen it before but just cant find it anywhere.

Switch to 6 bolt was 2/2009 I've read some places it was 1/2009. My car is a 2/2009 and it was a bolt. I bought both flywheels so i only had to do everything once incase it was a 8 bolt. The IS and 1M both utilize 6 bolt

Gotcha. Thanks! I think i am good to go with the 8 bolt. Only time will tell. I want this swap to be as painless and fast as possible or withdrawls may insue.

2/2009 and later production dates are supposed to be 6 bolt. That's why on our site we have you select your production date of your vehicle so we can send out the right part as most people don't know what they need.

You have the right part for your 2008. (8 bolt).

Besides flywheel nothing at all. Personally id swap cam ledges and cams over from the 6 bolt to the 8. The 6 bolt cam ledges seem to have less issues, also the cams are hollow and machined vs the 8 bolt ones which are solid and look to be cast.

if one were to rebuild a 8 bolt engine, would the newer cams & ledges be the prefered ones?

Reviving an ancient post lol but if I were to get the 6 bolt flywheel for a conversion would it effect my ECU in any way? And just for reassurance before I go out and buy a 6 bolt motor are you sure the flywheel is all that needs to be changed?

Probably gonna need a little more info, what are you trying to do? All that should really matter is the crank bolt pattern and having the corresponding flywheel. If you have a N54 motor from a car with a manufacture date up to January 2009 it will have an 8 bolt crank. You can easily determine this by looking at the front or back of the engine and counting the # of bolts on the crank. I didn't trust the dumbass fucking idiots who sell used motors cause they literally don't give a shit what they sell you so this was what I used.

I also bought the CarFax's for the motors I was hoping to buy, but caught one of the junkyards trying to pass off an 80k mile motor as a 46k mile motor.

But yeah, 8 bolt crank requires an 8 bolt flywheel. 6 bolt crank = 6 bolt flywheel. Don't worry about the cam ledges and shit, those are inside the motor and nothing you would need to worry about if doing an engine swap.

I have an 08 n54 and I got rod knock recently (spun rod bearing and its pretty bad). Anyways engine has been sitting out of the car and of course its an 8 bolt checked the crank and all. I was just wondering if I got a used engine if it would be better to go with a 6 bolt engine because I heard they have better cam ledges and etc. I just wanted to get some reassurance before I actually go out and put in an order for a 6 bolt motor. I should probably use Carfax also but I am going to get an engine with warranty on it anyways. I ran the VIN number on a supposedly 18k mile engine and it came back as 132k lol.

I think all crank pulleys have only 6 bolts. Mine had 6 on the pulley and 8 on the flywheel is there another way to tell? I swapped in a used engine from a x6 but have no idea the manufacturing date or even year I have the serial number printed under the intake but I dont know what I can do with it
