The chin guard is quite close the face anyway I have seen at another shop some chin covers to help with wind.
Its a good point will be interesting though as in end I will probably ride with just the sun visor, since the bike will be a summer toy cruiser, earplugs will be a must anyway. Well expecially the exhaust I will fit

Do some bikers nowadays wear earplugs then? I know you said because of the exhasut you're going to fit, but I never did even when on the back of his old Suzuki GT750 with virtually straight through pipes............two strokes can be so LOUD! My bike was far more civilised. |

I wear earplugs if I'll be going over about 50mph for more than a few minutes.
Old motorcyclists are notoriously deaf. It's the wind noise, not the exhaust noise. Quote:

Never really noticed the wind noise as such, especially with a fairing on and a helmet of course! We went up to Aberdeen once to get the ferry to the Shetlands (somewhere to go) and must have cruised at about 110 mph for ages. Talking in the 'eighties' and things were definitely different then traffic wise etc. Lot to be said for being a bit older. Had a FZ750 Yam back then, great bike. Happy days! |

Hi Helen,
These modern helmets with lots of vents and fancy visor release mechanism are very noisy at speeds. The fairings of the latest bikes seem to divert the air straight at your head and chest unless you tuck down. On my old CBR600 I used to get a lot of buffeting around 80 but above that it smoothed out. I always wear ear plugs unless i'm poping to the shops. Last edited by Skid; 09-26-2010 at 02:10 PM.. |

Hi Mark, thanks for explaining the reasons why.
I knew bike racers used ear plugs but not 'on the road' bikers as it was something that you never heard of (excuse the pun) years ago. Obviously down to the helmets and fairing design in some instances. You ever ridden a bike without a fairing any distance and it's windy? Talk about neck ache!! |

well while not biking I tried the helmet out on a indoor kart circuit and I have to say the noise supression is very impressive. Comparing to the strandard box/bike helmets they use I was just as good, no wind noise and lot less engine noise. Seems the ear area is well protected.
Now just need to get ona bike and try it

True but for comfort I wanted an open face for the car and since I'm going for a cruiser bike its got a good ption to remove the chin bar and offer more ventilation but still with a full visor to keep the bugs off , or in case of karting the bits of rubber and oil

I've ridden the odd bandit in the past. Found it very hard work above 80 as you say neck ache. I much prefer fully faired bikes, the downside is that unless I'm above 80 it kills my wrists. They cost a bloody fortune to fix when you crash them though. Main piece of advice to Magic is to make sure it fits properly otherwise it wont do you much good. Doesn't matter how much it costs providing it is approved for what you want it for. However I always buy the best I can afford, after all you can replace a helmet but not your head! It needs to be a snug fit all round and not tight any where or you will end up with a head ache. When you move the helmet up/down and side to side your skin on your head should move with the helmet, if the helmet moves and not your head it's too loose. They do tend to get a little looser with time though. |
