15k mile service, necessary?

My 335i is 1.5 years old and has just over 15k miles. The service light came on recently, but i dont understand what service the car would need.

I was under the impression these cars need service every 10k miles or 1 year. I had the oil changed at 10k miles which also happened to be the 1 year mark and now 6 months and 5k miles later, the light is back on. The oil level in the computer reads that its got plenty of oil.

Exactly which service light is on? What does it say or look like?

If you have idrive, you can search for which service is due easily. If not, then you can use the knob on the turn signal stalk to scroll through the menu to "service info" and see which service(s) are due.

The oil change you had done was probably the yearly thats required and wasn't due to mileage. The yearly isn't taken into acount on your interval that your car calculates. At around 15k is where your first actual oil change should be done, it varies based on driving habits. This is why it seems that it isnt neccassary, but is. If your car says it needs service I would bring it in seeing as how you wont be paying anything for it anyway.

I think BMW can void your warranty if you miss the service intervals.

They examine the car at 15k too, it's not strictly an oil change. If it's throwing any codes or anything else appears wrong, they'll address it.

Just bring it in.
