IB subs vs underseat upgrade?

Well, it is either upgrading my underseat subs with an amp and the Earthquake 8" or an IB with a 12" (Fi or ID) firing through the hole I will make behind the arm rest. Neither one is terribly difficult for me to do. My question is which set up will likely sound the best. In truth, the L7 bass is not that bad but obviously could be better. I am leaning towards the IB 12" as the better sounding set up but I have heard great reviews of the underseat upgrades.

Yea I ending up blowing my sws-8s with a JL 500/1. I have a trunk sub now and have my stock L7 woofers amped.

If you go the trunk sub route, I would recommend also amping the underseats as this will allow you to split the signal into mid- and sub bass, so you will not have any overlap and get a little more thump from under the seats.

+1...I forgot to mention my underseats are bandpassed between 65Hz and 150Hz.

I was wonder that, using the factory under seat subs as midbass with a seperate amp and properly crossed over. I'm liking that idea more and more.

Same question

Has anyone put a pair of 8 inch drivers on the rear deck? If you used the same speakers (Jehnert, Morel) as you put underseat, you could blend the sound pretty well especially with bandpass. Free firing woofers can be efficient, right?

If there meant to be free air then yes...of theyre meant to be in an enclosure then you porbably won't get any output.

Rear deck midbass ruins your front stage. We discern the source of midbass.

I wouldn't do it.

True, not for directional midbass

Understood. As someone else suggested I would bandpass the underseats at 60 to whatever sounds best with the door midranges. The rear deck woofers would low pass at 60. The 8 inchers would keep it tight. I wouldn't care if I got 20 hz out of it, I'm not in any competitions. IB is efficient and linear, correct?

Put a decent 12 in the trunk in a small sealed enclosure and call it a day. Cutting up the rear deck will look ugly, devalue your car, and probably not sound very good on top of it.
