The best civil chases on the Nurburgring I have ever seen - 1M, E46 M3 CSL, E92 M3 :)
Hi everyone,
I was looking at Nurburgring races a few weeks ago and I found two videos you will enjoy so much !!! M3 E46 --- vs --- M3 E92 : 1M Coupe --- vs --- M3 E46 CSL : I would love to have any of those cars and visit the Green Hell one day ! Enjoy it Best Regards, Mat. PS. The 1M is just the best M car ever - faster in the straight line than M3 E36/E46 or E39 M5 which are all excatly the same in a straight line lol ! Here is the proof (there are a lot more videos and the outcome is just the same) : 1M vs E46 M3 : E36 M3 vs E46 M3 : E36 M3 vs E39 M5 : Ive watched a video of 1M vs Z4M and I can say these two cars are just excatly the same in a straight line E90/E92 M3 and E60/F10 M5 are different story to these cars above 335d/335i remapped/chipped are in the middle of the two cars sets above : Of course the handling of all the above cars is a different story - below Ive produced the table with all of the BMW cars tested on the Nurburgring : Ive been saving cash to buy 330d LCI but the car has no soul, I mean its one of the best diesel cars out there (dont get me wrong), but there is no excitement about it. Ive changed my mind and will buy 2008 M3 E90 DCT or 335i E90 Manual. Every day use car and also race track car in one ! Which one would you have ?

You actually have one of my vids in there.
I've seen the 1M vs E46 M3 and not sure if the M3 driver knew what the fuck he was doing. At the pod the other day I had never run the M3 before and only got one run in of 13.3@106.5 mph and I hit the limiter in 3rd and also had an average 60ft. A 360HP 135i had been there all day and couldnt beat 13.6... The M3 has to be shifted perfectly every gear 8k bang on. 200rpm to early and you are slow.... (my vid is the 335d vs E46 M3 vert when I had my Denzil)

Yes I'm fine with you using the vid mate, one thing I noticed also is that the E46 M3 time was done in December 2000. Wasn't perfect conditions really. I'm sure it could run quicker.
Also mate the E90 M3 didn't come out till 08. The E92 came out in 07.

The power to weight of the 1M and the E46 M3 are pretty similar. It obviously has a big torque advantage though.
The figures I've read suggest it is quicker though. Not by much. Nothing that a good/bad driver could make up of lose. Look at the top video posted. The E46 M3 is driven better than the E92 M3 and it is only when he gets on the power from the same speed as the E46 that he managed to pull away even whilst giving a draft. |

I have an e90 335i manual. Love it.
My best 0-60 is 4.6secs 0-100 in 10.18 (both before meth). I desperately want an LSD, some m3 suspension arms and a nice performance exhaust - then i might stop considering an e92 m3 dct... But suspect I'd miss getting good fuel economy and cheaper insurance, tax and servicing!!

I've not watched that video but know that E92 M3 don't really run any quicker at the pod and I've kept up with one easy before. If your saying that E46 is being dropped by the E92 then It must be a poor example of the S54

It seems a lot of M3 drivers if it be the E46 or E92 struggle to ring the neck out of their cars to achieve good times at Santa Pod. A lot of E46 M3s get nowhere near your time. Sure it's just not more duff E92 drivers? Tested reviews of the E92 M3 suggest the 0-60MPH time is nearly the same as the E46 but most quote 0-100MPH in pretty much 10sec dead. It is a little bit heavier but 70BHP is a fair advantage. |

I don't think anyone has done 0-100mph in 10 secs in an E92 mate. M5's do that time!!
I think the E92 is low 11's but struggle to even get that. Chris Harris once got one to do 11.2 E46 M3 is supposed to be 11.5. Again tough to get that close although I rekon I did on Sat (or better). But your right most M3's whether E46 or E92 do struggle to put down decent times.

Just watching this video between the E46 and E92
The E46 makes a better start than the E92 as he had a better reaction time. Poor reactions by both to be honest. The E92 closes the gap and finish pretty much level with the E46 and sets a faster time but records a lower terminal speed. A very odd combination to be seeming travelling faster but record a slower speed. A guy is posting videos of 12.9 second run in his E92 but no proof. |

The red car is my mates. It's had a lot of work & on decent Tyres.
If I had not hit the limiter I rekon I would have gone a tenth quicker and done a 13.2. Then if I was able to have had another go I rekon I could have shaved a tenth or more on my 60ft and potentially had a 12.9 out of a completely standard E46... Or at least a 13.0

10.2 secs above. http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/carg...m3_saloon.html 10.7 secs for the saloon which I believe is slightly slower than the coupe? There is more out there. |

I think there are BMW figures (autocar) Not real figures?
Let's not forget I kept up with E92 M3's with my Denzil.... And from what I can gather so far the E46 is fucking there too... Still can't believe it though!! Madness Edit: actually have that Evo mag. So in reality E9x is quicker. Just duff drivers. Or actually more the fact the car requires 110% to be quick!

Yeah that's what I thought. But Harris only managed a 11.2 in the one I saw?!

Are you running any Tuning Box / Remap ? I know a lot of guys with tuned 335i BMWs to over 400BHP !!! It goes quicker than M3 E90 by a walking pace - just an amazing car to tune ! M3 E90 lacks the Turbos so there is nothing much to tune - just to visit G-Power to install the Compressor or any other specialists... A friend of mine has E90 DCT G-Power producing 570BHP but the kit costs so much, around the 08 plate M3 E90 so 20k but hell its worth it - will go faster in a straight line than M5 F10 !!! 335i is amazing in manual (5.6 sec to 62mph) and paddles (5.8 sec) both E90s. The average mpg is rated at 31 mpg by the manufacturer but I suppose it will do around 23/24 mpg in real world ?

Mods are listed in my signature. Probably around 410bhp at that time. For more than 570bhp on a 335i you need a single turbo conversion:

If I had one criticism of the 1 series coupe it was the choppy ride. Something very noticeable in the video. It doesn’t look like 19” wheels has help much.
