The dealer told me the same thing. That this part is not for the E92 Coupe and therefore shouldn't go in. They did not specifically tell me that this would affect the Warranty but its one of those I don't want to have my transmission fail, and them turn around and go, "Although this has nothing to do with it, in no way could this affect the transmission in any way, since its not a part for this car, and its remotely related, we won't cover it." Thanks, probably do it anyway, and if I need a repair related to Clutch, Transmission, Power Train, etc., I will just put the old one back on.

I wouldn't worry at all. I think you'll be very happy with the mod!

Hi - This part ( the shift lever itself) does not fit my early build e92 335.

I used the part number from this DIY.

The issue that I am having is that the bottom of the shift lever is hitting the nuts of the drive shaft guibo (sp?)

just an FYI for any one thinking of this mod.

edit: my shift link to the tranny is hitting the top of the guibo. so this is a no go for my e92.

My e92 was delivered 9/06 so if you have an early e92 dont do this!

I have a 01/08 build E92 and did the DIY this weekend. I only had two issues, removing the rubber boot and getting the Nylon Shift Lever Bearing to lock when inserting it with the shift lever.

Removing the boot is just ridiculously hard. No easy way to do it, I tried from above and below and every which way, just use patience is all I could say.

Nylon Shift Lever Bearing for me did not want to lock when I was pressing it down. I am still not sure if it properly locked or it I just jammed it in so it is now stuck. I did read all the DIY's carefully and aligned it properly. It seems like I did it correctly I am pretty handy with DIY but in this instance I could not figure out if it was properly snapped in. It would not snap in and I could lift the lever up. I finally pressed it down at which time it seemed like it was in, no snap was heard or felt but I think I finally got it. Only time will tell, the shift lever does not appear capable of being lifted up anymore so I think I finally got it in.

As for the post above, on my build the lever appears fine. It is now, notchy, as others have explained, specially 1 and 2 gear. Feel better to me. All in all with only two days under my belt I much prefer the shifting feel now. Specially changing from 4 to 5. Before I felt like I would have to move in my seat to get it thrown all the way to the right, so I could have enough extension, now its a much shorter and more comfortable throw. I do wonder if this lever is the best for the E92 I will wait and see if a short shifter is made specifically for the E92 and what differences it will have.

I noticed that Tischer only recommend this part for the 328 E92, not the 335 E92. Does anyone know why?

Again, this was for an E90, not an E92... I wish you coupe owners all luck, but can't comment any further.

Yeah, I have had it in for 4 days and I have no problem with it, and I suppose if any of the other 335I Coupe owners had issues it would have come up by now through someone, its just odd that it is recommended for the 328i E92 but not the 335i E92. Digging through BMWUSA accessories, the SSK Kit is listed under the 2008 E92 328i but not the E92 335i, just odd only time will tell.

Fits great in my 10/08 build 335i sedan. The lever does end up pointed backwards a little bit, 3rd is where neutral used to be, but it doesn't bother me. I prefer it, because 1,3,5 used to be a bit of a stretch and now it falls to hand quite nicely. Agreed with the others, it's a little notchy, but not bad.

Installation was pretty easy, but I definitely couldn't do it from the top. 4 screws and the panel comes off, then reach up and pull out the clip. Pretty simple. No rubbing or grinding or anything.

There's an arrow on the rubber boot, should it face forward or face backward? i installed it back with arrow pointing forward, don't know if that's correct or incorrect.

Otherwise great DIY! Jacked the car up, got it on jack stand and everything worked. 1 word of caution is for my Canadian 07 328i, the circlip, etc is completely inaccessible from the interor. There's more metal blocking you than as shown in the photos of the original DIY. However tho things are still managable (both in removing circlip, removing gear selector, putting things back) underneath the car. Cheers!

Hey Guys, I just had the SSK install on my 330i today and all the gears work without hitting the trim, so I'm pretty sure its correct. I noticed though that in neutral it's very slightly leaning to the right alittle.

Has anyone else noticed this? Seems all the gears are slightly to the right of where they should be based on the boot.

When in 6th Gear, there is very little space between the Shifter and the boot, it doesn't touch but there's very little space there.

Is this the way it's suppose to be? 1st is now where thrid use to be and 2nd is where 4th use to be.

My angle isn't quite as sharpe as hulkmax's picture on page 2 of this thread. Want to know if this is the way it's suppose to be.

^^ am pretty sure your knob is turned in the wrong way.....when in neutral it should be slighty to the right and sitting a lot more straight up then what you have right now, it should almost look like its in third sitting properly and shouldn't be so close to the trim when shifting....

Sorry to clarify, the above shot was in 6th gear. Here are a few more shots. When in neutral the shifter feels like it's to the right of center and in 6th gear it's all the way in the corner, not a lot of room on right side for fingers.

Is this the way it's suppose to be? Overall it's nice, 1-4 gears are really easy to get to and 5th and 6th are kinda out of the way, which makes sense since you only use them at cruising speed.

Officially no. However, I and many others have installed it, and it seems to work just fine. So yes, it will fit in your E92, and it will work.

There isn't many conflicting reports on whether it fits, there are just questions on whether or not its the best shifter for this vehicle. You can install numerous shifters from previous BMW vehicles and some of them may "fit" but it doesn't necessarily make it the best one.

You know I have read that and I have looked at my own shifter, and it may just be slightly to the right, but it hardly noticeable, and does not appear to change anything. With the old shifter, I would move straight up for 1st, now I have to go slightly to the left and up, which I prefer actually.

Did anyone else with a 325i find getting the bearing out to be an incredible bitch? Ive been working on it for a good time now and it does not want to release. I think it has attatchment issues

Rotate it with the screwdriver method (~90 degrees) and it should glide right up (it has a ridge you need to get around, so DON'T force it!)
