I see people here, get going, then driving at 40 or 50 on sheet ice, thinking they're OK - try stopping or steering!!!

Me doing 20 or less on the ice, in town, and being flashed at and overtaken by plonkers who would flash / wave fists at me for overtaking them on a hot summers day at 60/70 on an open A road....

It was reputed to do 120 but I found it a all a bit scary after 105. I eventually blew the cylinder head gaskets. Mine was all black inside and out, with a vinyl roof.
But, I wish I still had it! In it's day it was an exceptional motor IMO.
One of the sweetest sounding engines of the time, my old man had a Vee 6 Granada, could tell it was him coming home from the engine sound before i even saw the car....280 brooklyn Capri, or Mk1 rs 3100. Ooooh wonder how much there worth nowadays!

I would be more worried about being able to stop, then being able to drive away. When driving away is not possible / or so difficult you should consider if you want to drive at all, or to buy wintertires. Adding mass in the back of car is for sure something I would not do. Yes, you maybe manage to drive away more easy, but let's see what happens if you suddenly have to brake hard / have to avoid something on the road.
I agree tyres are brand new and have plenty of grip and since having done winter driving trainin / skid training etc know do and donts. Key as others said take it slow and easy, got to say had no problems coming down the hill and stopping or turning it was jsut case of getting up them, down our way it was case of too much snow which then compacted so once you had grip on straight it was fine plus it was just our side roads once on main road it was fine.

Today again we had around 3-4 inches so car stayed on drive would risk it but on a non snow day like tuesday where it was old and partially cleared bags do a great job

Hi All...
I managed to get three bags of earth from local Garden centre for a 10'r. It works a treat during this crap slidy weather. Had a few near misses already.

Takes me back to my 1978 Mk2 Escort days.. Red with a black vinyl roof and a large slab in the boot..!

The bags will stay in ma Beemer untill it's melted then I'll use the soil come the spring time...Excellent..!!

.....and of course bags of sand do not invalidate your standard insurance, as changing to Winter tyres / wheels might do!
