Oil Service

Just booked in oil service for 330d saloon. £220 all in, not bad considering 10L of Mobil 1 oil around £90. Probably would have saved £30 if I had bought the oil and given to the stealer myself. I'll check the oil level before I drive off.

booked mine in for oil, brake fluid and microfilter for £308. Could have saved a bit with own oil but couldnt be bothered. Interestingly 2 dealers never even rang me back with a quote another one couldnt quote without all my details including address, e mail and telephone so i declined to proceed with them.

Considering they get the oil in bulk and will cost them peanuts and it'll take a techy 20 minutes to do the job its not really a good price in reality is it.

For a BMW dealer its alright I suppose but the best dealer price I got for an oil service was £160 (oil, filter, labour) although I only needed 7litres of oil in my car. They waivered the environmental charge for getting rid of the old oil.

Agreed, I was referring to stealer mentality. I can get filter and oil for £100 and do the job myself, but that stamp is going to cost me another £100 to keep BMW happy in terms of warranty..

The prices are shocking, i'm a mechanic and know how much these things cost! I can fully service my run about Corsa C for £80 and im talking everything, G/box oil, brake fluid, microfilter, air/oil filter/oil & plugs, granted it's not a BMW but even still.

I don't like to bragg, but just to sicken you all further, I'm getting the oil and filter changed & S/Book stamped at BMW for the grand total of £0 as my (very kind) mate's a mechanic in one of the dealers

BP kindly provides motorbike repair shops in Vietnam with a BP branded placard for them to list their service prices. Going rate for an oil change on a light bike was VND44,000 from memory or about US$2.50

I used to get my bike's oil changed every 1,000km just for the hell of it.

Kaishang - I bet your bikes engine was gleaming inside

BM are charging £15+vat per litre of oil, most e92's iirc take 7 litres, thats £126.00 just for the oil. You can buy 5 litres of mobil 1 motorsport for £50, say another 2 litres is £25 = £75. I can't see BM's oil being any better irc it's just a fully sinthetic long life, probably mobil1 or castrol (both BMW approved). oil filter's are paper elements, so your lucky if they cost BM £2 ea. Stealers, not dealers!

Can't really answer that question, I don't see why not (i'd probably mention it to the service advisor to make sure)

I had mine done at Sytner Chigwell recently where I supplied my own oil. I provided loads (2x large bottles which are 4L each and 2x 2L bottles). They only used what was required and left the rest.

That was my 1st service and came in at £185 inc. VAT

well might do that after all as have been quoted £190 if i supply my own oil which will cost about £80 for 10 litres so will cost £270 in all instead of £308 and I will have 2.5 litres left over for topping up or next service.

£80 for 10 litres and as car need 7.5l cost of oil is about £60 to a consumer so say £40 to the garage so about £160 for labour and an oil filter. As they told me for brake fluid, microfilter and oil change was £308 and with my own oil £190 it means that they are charging £108 for oil, good mark up!

Both ASDA and Costco have BMWLL04 Castrol 5W-30 oil for £30 for 4L tubs. 3L BMW engine takes around 8L doesn't it?

hi Guys,
i see lots of people in talking about servicing say that they could have saved money if they supplied the oil to the dealer. I didnt know that you could do this. it it as simple as me ringing up BMW and asking for a price for a service, but saying that i will supply the oil ?
sorry for the basic question, i just dont want to phone them and say the wrong thing and look like a fool lol
Thanks a lot guys
