!!!SOLVED!!! 2006 330i water pump going off then coming back on
Hi, has anyone experienced an issue where your electronic water pump comes on during times of the day, then shuts off when you open then door, and comes back on again when the car goes into sleep mode. I'm assuming the water pump is bad but it doesn't overheat, and drives perfectly fine when its running. The problem is, the water pump comes on and off during the night and drains my battery. The maddening part is, it responds to the bleeding procedure so I assume the communication bus is intact.

No, no overheating or warning light, runs fine water pump cycles while off and in sleep mode draining the battery, this is my fourth day in jumping my baby.

I see. Not sure but I would check the relay that controls the water pump if any? Maybe it got stucked? I am not an expert but it does not hurt to check. Otherwise google ur issue if someone else have had this issue. I have never heard about this... good luck!

Yeah I know. Ive googled the issue and didnt really turn up any specific issues that mimic my problem. This was my last resort in posting here. I don't want to throw parts at the problem. My buddy hooked it up and there was a dme fault, and a water pump fault. All of this started after my alternator died and my car overheated. Since clearing the faults the DME fault or water pump fault they didnt come back, but the problem still persists. I'm at my wits end on this one, the funny thing is, it comes on after it goes into sleep mode and off when I open my door.

What about your battery? Go to Auto Zone and have them test the battery and alternator. I would do this If I were you...

I just replaced the alternator, this caused my overheat originally. The battery was replaced in august of this year, but considering Ive been waking up all hours of the night just to go listen to my water pump still running, makes me think its the pump or computer itself. When I drive, I don't get an alert saying battery not charging, or battery low.

You will have to take it to dealer and get it diagnosed. Once they find out whats wrong with it, take it to Indy shop. Good luck and keep us posted...

Turns out it was the water pump. Though it ran fine, responded to bleeding, i guess it wasn't communicating with the ECU to turn off when going into sleep mode.

So how did you fix it? A new water pump? reading through this thread, it seems to me that your water pump is less than one year old. |
