Tyres (about to pull the trigger on a full set)

I currently have: 225/35/19 Front and 255/30/19 Rear on my 335i.

I'm about to buy a full set of non-RFT (I'm going for 265/30 and 235/35 this time), and I'm torn between:

Goodyear F1 Asymm (£668) and Continental Sport Contact 5P (£697)

The price difference is £29 (fitted, balanced etc).

I could toss a coin really, but I'm leaning towards the GY. Any comments?

Both are good and it is hair splitting to decide between them.

I've had the Goodyear F1 AS2S for a while and I'm happy. Good levels of grip on all surfaces and they last well.

You could save some money on those prices though.

Tyreleader are £534 for Goodyears and £570 for the Continentals.

Shouldn't be more than £60 to have them fitted.

You could, if you wanted to, save even more money by looking into buying "Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta".

IMHO a lovely tyre under rated and under priced.

Just my take on it!

They are £556 on Tyreleader, so they are in the middle of the two premium tyres mentioned. It's also old tyres tyreleader are selling at that price.

They never score as highly as the above tyres in independent tests.

I've used both. Felt like the gys were marginally better for grip. The rears of the contis wore out in 10k miles so this is really what steered me to gy

Don't know about that, seems pretty good on this review...

I am not championing these tyres above what OP has suggested, but have had first hand experience of having them on my E46 M3 for 2 years. Excellent grip, and VERY Quite!!

Have you got a link to where you're looking at these please?

I need to buy a full set at the same sizes!

The 'old tyre' myth was exactly that, a myth. My Verds had been made within the last 8 weeks when they were delivered to my house. Great tyres but wear pretty quickly.

That's just people's opinions. Whatever tyres people have on their car, or whatever car they own, is usually the best. People are a bit biased.

If you look on the very same page there is proper test been conducted. Since it is an old test the comparison is against the old Goodyear Eagle F1, which isn't anywhere near as good as the AS2, and the Continental is the old 3 model too.

They both still beat the Vredesteins. They had the worst dry and wet braking in this test to finish last of the 9 tested tyres.

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article...-Tyre-Test.htm

If they were much cheaper they'd maybe be worth a try. However since they are now priced right between the premium tyres, I'd give them a miss.

Pulled the trigger on the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.

Final price is £668 which includes full fitment and tracking. So, probably a few £ more than a website, but it's my indi who I'm happy with.

Thanks for the comments though, just wanted to make sure they were OK.

Tyreleader state on the advert DOT2009. Here is the link.

http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyre...r19-93y-209656

They list on their adverts if the tyre is old now and that's how I knew they were old. 2009 is too old for me, but at least they tell you in advance.

I didn't say all Tyreleader's tyres were old.

That's a lot of money for a 6 year old tyre.

Ah right.
I didn't realise it was a deal for old tyres specifically.
I admit, I would think twice for tyres made in 2009.
I have had a great summer on mine. I was surprised at how much they had worn when I swapped to my winters. I guess it's to be expected when pushing 450 bhp + through em tho.
I only paid about £450 for the whole set.

Edit. Don't know my ass from my elbow today. I have Kumho's

As Kerr has already alluded to, the big graphs at the top are just user ratings, not independent tests.

if you look on that page, just below where the tyre sizes are listed you have the section that says "Tyre Test Results" and lists 3 links. those are links to independent tyre tests done by magazines, and actually give a true representation of a tyres performance.

Garage List
I've always found Continental's a bit noisy myself.

TBH I tend to stick to Kumho KU39 or Falken FK452
