OP drives a 328...he could just be a hero for all other 328 owners and give them moral support. Its okay 335i's arent that fast.

I'm saying that my 320hp e38 has the power, and the RPM at which it makes it is irrelevant because it is felt sooner or later. I know what that amount of power feels like. (Peak power is @ 5400 RPM and peak torque is @ 3700 RPM) Yes it is heavier, making it slower, but a stock 335i is nothing to drool about, which is what the OP drove. By the way, my E38 weighs 500 lbs. more than an e90 - that's a few people. Owning both at the same time, I think my 740i Sport (which has suspension and performance upgrades from M themselves) is more fun than my e90 even though it's a little heavier. If your amazing 335i brakes match the amazing performance of the car, than why should my "weighs a ton" 7 series from last decade stop only 3 feet longer from 60 - 0 than your new 335i? It's so much more satisfying to drive than an E90 on a stock vs. stock point of view.

By the way, wait until you get past that quarter mile, the GT500 will pull away.

after driving my car for 6 months i definitely agree. the power is there almost any time i wish in every gear, almost any rpm range. the 328 is not THAT slow but you would have to be revving it a lot more than the 335. i don't understand how you weren't impressed though. even when i'm giving partial throttle the 335 accelerates very well. either you were expecting TOO much, or you should test drive again.

I keep my 335 out of sport mode 95% of the time and its peppy for the majority of the drive. I still leave people at a light without much effort. 328 I test drove made me bring it back after a few minutes.

I've test driven a lot of cars, and you can only really get a feel for it when you do it for at least 30+ minutes and preferably alone on good roads so you can get a feel for it.

Most fast cars don't feel crazy in a straight line, it's generally smoother and more gradual then you'd think.

I totally agree - there's something so awesome about hitting max torque well under 2,000 RPM.

To be fair - the first time I drove a 335i, I was not that impressed with the power either.

I was with the salesman, and while I did a few WOT accelerations, it was not that much. Later, I was able to take about 4-5 different 335i's out by myself. From the coupe, to the convertible, to the sedan, all mixed with either RWD or AWD.

Only after I really got to drive it alone, and explore the car a bit more did I fall in love with it. You can putz around in a Lamborghini and think it's slow, it's only when you really get to wind it up and take advantage of it that you appreciate the power and performance.

So you need more seat time with the car, it's as simple as that.

This is my first BMW (and first post) and I love it! I purchased the 2011 328 xDrive, 6spd, sport package. I came from a 2010 infiniti G37xS (before that 2005 Audi A6).

As you all know the BMW just has an amazing connection with the road that the other cars I've owned in the past didn't have. They were nice cars, just didn't have that excitement and incredible feedback.

Anyway, in the process of purchasing the 328 I took both the 335 and 328 out back to back. I did this so many times the salesman probably hated me. I came to the same conclusion that I've read in earlier posts... the 335 just didn't feel like it deserved the $5-7k or so more $$. The 328 was fun to drive and felt fast enough (as least for me). Yes it felt faster in the straights, but in the windy roads they felt very similar. Just my opinion, but I didn't feel the 335 justified the extra money.

have owned a celica that tore bitumen off the rd, (low 12's rocket) drove an echo for 2 years then an Audi A4. The A4 was light really responsive steering. had it hammering a few times on some twisty rds. Really liked it’s light feel and how it zipped though the corners. (last car before my e92 335i

test drove a golf r (was going to buy one) great little car handles great good punch. Nothing freaky.

1st time I test drove a 335i sedan I was not able to really make it move but I was stunned by the heavy steering... i also left thinking it's really just a car. got it to rev a little but like op thought hmm what's the fuss about.

So, 3 months later i was about to make an offer on a golf r when i found my current 335i, went to the dealer, they gave me a warranty so I just bought it as I loved it’s look and colour combo, no test drive just grabbed it. After pick up i went overseas, Once back took it to be serviced, had two injectors changed under campaign. Got the car back and had my first real drive , still not knowing how to get the best out of her. The car really opens up from 2k to 6k i mean it opens up. After 5 months of driving this car all I can say is it’s the best car I have ever driven and owned. have driven a 300c str8 and punched it a s13 silvia and punched it... in terms of power delivery handling and smoothness it’s the best way better overall package then the celica I owned. In the first week i missed the a4 but now since i have been taking my 335 up to twistys on a regular basis to get to know her. All i can say based on what I have driven the 335i is the best, also great a daily driver.

What I love the most is the torque range on this car its instant and non stop truly amazing. Not since my Celica have i had wide smiles when i drive. Last night went for some runs on a twisty run and on the way home I was ear to ear smiles on how it tore up the corners and the power on acceration out of the apex is just YEH! And I am stock.. COBB stage 1 in in the pipes so i am sure i will be reblown away then.

so after all the good and great some of the bad for me,

damn oil takes to long to warm up, as I just get to work it's starting to warm up. so on my daily drives I can't do a thing.(better for my DL) get lots of wankers trying to get me going... fellow Bimmer drivers included!

it's ninja fast, too quickley it gets to way over the limit while you feel like you're doing a 50% of what you're doing.

run flats on 19inch wheels so bumpy, I am used to it now but passengers comment on it.

auto rain sensors seem to think it's not raining unless it's pooring.

again, that ninja speed, god it can be dangerous, i use crusie control 90% of the time.

damn squeaky brake pads, get on my fronts on hot days, very embrassing.

To the op, you can’t judge this car off a test drive. It's a amazing car and I am sure if you took the plunge your opinion would change. all the best!

Not with the 328i, it has the GM box instead of ZF in the 335i.

Turbo need hot exhaust to spool up. It takes around 10min for the N54 to warm up to the ideal operating temp. Most test drives don't even last long enough for the engine to warm up.

The 335i is a huge leap from your 328i. The amazing torque curve should leave you feeling satisfied. If it's not enough power out of the box, you can bump the power up with a simple tune. Much easier to get power than an N/A car.

To be fair, I didn't pay attention to how warmed up the 335 was when I tested it. It was also my first experience with the automatic transmission and paddle shifters. I'm sure an M-sport 6MT 335 would have impressed me alot more than the automatic.

To be fair a NA engine like the 328i does have better throttle response. Any FI engine has crap throttle response and that might be the perception here. But to think that the 335i isn't that different...LOL

I think he's just trying to justify with his wallet...
