FML! Help?!
Ok, before the bashing ensues, I've done multiple searches and I'm aware this has probably been brought up more than enough, but I want NoVA advice.
I just recently purchased a 09' 335i Coupe, 34k miles, a little over a week ago. Today I was just getting some Subway up the street, literally one minute from my house, when I get the "Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power" message on my dash. After getting Subway, less than a couple of minutes, I returned to my car and saw the message went away. During this time I couldn't tell if it had a direct impact to actually losing power, since I was going 25MPH or under the entire time. FWIW, when I got home I pushed the car around the block a few times and it seemed fine. I am FULLY AWARE this could be because of the HPFP or things related to it, however that's not what I need advice on. I live in NoVA, but purchased my car at BMW of Silver Spring, and I was planning to pick up some parts from GetBMWParts this Saturday. It's about a 45 minute to an hour drive, do you think I can make it? Or should I just take it to BMW of Sterling which is 10 minutes away and not take the chance at all? Also (again please don't bash) when taking it in with a problem like this, do I actually have to schedule a time or can I just drop it off at 7AM, pick up a loaner and let them deal with it? Obviously I don't prepare to have a problem like this and plan a head of time to schedule. Last edited by AaronLBeltran; 07-28-2011 at 11:10 PM.. |

I have always had to schedule time with BMW of sterling and they are pretty busy (usually a week or two out) but since this is a recall thing you may just be able to drop it off.
There's a member here who works at BMW of Sterling, though I don't remember his name - maybe try finding him - through the search - and see if he can squeeze you in early. Good luck though! |

If you purchased at Tischer about a week ago and will be there anyway to pick up parts, I would bug your salesman when you go to pick up the parts. Of course he won't know what the problem is, but you can try to get him to have a tech read the codes on the car for you.

BMW dealers don't care where you buy and service the car.

Thanks all for the advice. I brought my car in for a 2PM appointment at Tischer today since I didn't want to wait until next week, and definitely not two weeks for BMW of Sterling. They had a loaner available and I beat the traffic too.

330i sedan. The guy who came before me that I was literally right behind while pulling into the dealership got the last 335i. It's still a lot better then anything from Enterprise.

I've never heard of anyone getting a loaner car from bmw that was actually a car from enterprise. Thats odd. Both shops I go too always give me a key to one of their many loaners.

almost all DC/Baltimore area dealers have a tie in with Enterprise in case their loaner fleet is gone. the key is that some dealers have bigger loaner fleets than others and/or they only give loaner BMWs to people who purchased from them

The Audi dealer I go to has loaners only through Enterprise. All of them are Audis, though.

Yerp. As stated they said they drove it around for 11-12 miles trying to reproduce the problem or any code and they were unable to. Nothing else I can do, is there?
Anyone in mind? |

Well, Shane, our resident coder, charges $20 for diagnostics and he'll be able to help. While you are at it, you can get some fun stuff coded on to your car. Shane's a great guy to know and he'll be at Bimmerfest this weekend.
I think Pat also knows someone (Tuner1984). |

BMW of Sterling does have loaner bmws but it's a pain in the ass to get one, if ur not the 7:00 appt, they may not have one for you and they don't reserve them.
BTW - got my car coded by Shane, super cool guy, the FOB window roll up and removing the orange turn signals are a definite plus. |
