Arrow POLL: How many of you have the turbo siren sound from your stock turbos?

I am just trying to see how many of your cars are exibiting the turbo siren noise many of you are familiar with. Please vote accordingly. Thanks!

In your comment please note if you are stock, or if tuned what tune you are running.

Here are two videos by Hotrod182 that demonstrate the sound:

I have heard the siren literally once since I bought my car about 2,000 miles ago. It happened on the day I bought it and was driving home across the country. At the time I was like awwmaaan but it only lasted for about 1 minute and I haven't heard it since....
I think previous owner had JB4 for a while and I now have cobb, dp's and fmic. Was on the highway going about 75-80 mph at the time (totally stock then).

pretty sure this is DV related. Most DV's when they are going bad sound like a siren.

This is the turbos having been abused. Likely bearing failure?

Mine only started doing this one I installed my catless downpipes. I have heard this on many other N54's stock and modified. Whats the big deal?

That's my question. So many people say different things about the noise, I don't know if it's something to worry about or not.

I believe the cause to be the turbo bearings going out. To the best of my knowledge (which is somewhat limited on this topic) when they go out the shaft then has a little play in it which as it spins causes the noise. I may be incorrect but that is how I understand it. I just recently got the siren noise after running the guts out of my turbos at an airfield event. They still make and hold boost, but they have the siren sound now.

I do when I quickly let off the gas during high boost(17.5+ psi), but that's about it.

I have to say it's fun to poll people when they have no clue as to what this sound sounds like. With DCI and DPs, I can here my turbo's spool, but it's not the howling noise you get when a turbo fails. I really wonder how many people actually know what that sounds like?

I wish I had that sound instead of one I have. Mine sounds like a malfunctioned ticking time bomb (bad waste gate rattle). No siren and spooling sounds.

Seems as if the majority so far has the sound. Those of you that have noticed it, has it gotten louder over time?

To embed the video, you take just the last part of your video's link (i.e. KdqBOyEZ90g) from the video you posted above and put just that part between the [u2b] brackets. That will embed the video.

The odd noise coming from your turbos could very well be from bad bearings or some sort of damage to the turbine itself. It seems like yours noise is to a much worse degree than most experience. I am not an expert by any means on this matter though so these are just my best guess. I am sure Rob Beck or Tony@Vargas Turbos could elaborate more.

I only really started to notice mine after the catless DP install. Pretty loud first thing in the morning, but starts to go away after it warms up.

Before the DPs it would only be the faintest sound early in the AM when cold.
