e90 Brake upgrade

Hi All,

Bit of a noob and had a bit of a search but couldn't really find what I was after. I am considering upgrading my brakes in the near future. It would be mostly for cosmetic reasons to look good through the 19" wheels I will be getting in the next month or so. Probably grooved, drilled discs and calipers. Anyone recommend a good setup to go for that will look good but not brake the bank. (see what I did there?)

Any help will be much appreciated. Estimated costs would be good too. The car is a black 07 325d m sport if that helps any.

Cheers!

I upgraded my front brakes to 335 brakes because the standard 318 brakes looked tiny behind my 19's. All you need is the calipers and carriers, brake discs and brake pads. They bolt straight on. All in including new discs from bmw it ended up costing me about £500

If you're only looking for good looking brakes your cheapest option would be to get a set of cross drilled rotors and paint your calipers. A cheap decent set of rotors can be found from Brakemotive, R1, DBA, or EBC (listed cheapest to most expensive). For painting, yes there are really ghetto looking paint jobs, but if done properly look really nice. Check out the blue painted brakes from the related post below.

For the cheapest performance brake upgrade bang for the buck check out this Willwood kit from Revolution Brakes in Oregon. Its an upgrade package to go up to the 348mm disks like the 335i has. You can get them in custom colors for an extra $100. I think this is a better upgrade than the BMW OEM 6pot upgrade because they stiff you and only upgrade you to 330mm discs (tiny). Not worth it. Its actually a downgrade if you have a 335i. The OEM upgrade package is pictured below. They look good, but thats it. You'd get better performance buying a set of used 335i brakes off the forum for about $400-600.

Just for reference, here are the approximate prices for front brake upgrade kits from the different manufacturers. The prices vary a little bit from re-seller to re-seller:

Front Only
Stock 335i Used $400-600 (front and rear)
Willwood 348mm 4pot $1200
BMW Performance 330 6po $1500
Ksport 300mm 6pot $1500
Ksport 355mm 8pot $2100
Stoptech, Brembo, Rotora, AP, Racing Brake 355mm 6pot $3500+

These places have a good selection for you to see what's available on the market:

VividRacing.com
GetBMWparts.com
CARid.com
TurnerMotor Sports
ECS Tuning
BimmerWorld

Side notes:
- its possible to bolt on 335i brakes onto other e9x models with no modifications.
- it is not possible to bolt M3 brakes onto other e9x models without special adapters.
- F30 brakes will not bolt onto any e9x without modifications.
- 1 series calipers do no fit e9x without modifications.

Just a note about the F30 brakes on E9x's
The Performance ones for F30 is sold on german ebay as a bolt-on fit.
I have been thinking of doing that on mine....

That's news to me. I have always read otherwise, but it'd be excellent if the F30 brakes fit because the Msport version on the 6th gen F series finally does a decent size of 370mm instead of the crappy 330mm on the 5th gen E series.

Do you have all link? Just searched, and all I could find on ebay was that they only fit F series.

anielsen71,

I got this (pic - screen capture) from TurnerMotorSports.com for the F30 OEM BBK and it says it doesn't fit. I'm not doubting you. I want you to be right. I'm just reading otherwise. $2k for a 370mm front & rear kit is really cheap compared to almost $7k from Brembo or Stoptech.

This is what I found:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/BMW-M-Perform...item35cb506a7a
It's the same shop as I have seen the other brakes on.
I know it does not say anything about F3x models, but as I recall it, it was these brakes said to be for both F3x and E9x.
But as you can see, these are actually 370mm in diameter. They should be able to brake... :-)

LOL...was telling you the truth when I said I was hoping you were right. Still, I can't find anything on the rear brakes. It looks like it won't fit, but no one has said they've tried either. HP Autowerks hinted that they tried, but didn't say very much about results.

Hehehe, yea...you said so :-)
The dealer might have found out that the kit was not completely campatible with both F3x and E9x since the text is changed.
But the item is the same as far as I can see. Both by the picture and the specs. and it's the same deealer.
The rear brakes might have something to do with the emergency brake as someone said. I don't know if there's a difference there.....
