Have read it again, and at the end he says that in Russia, or Belarus they have same name for money so hard to understand But the price was 240$ USD and he says that if not replaced in time could came apart and break timing cover which will be way more expensive to repair.

This German vendor's site didn't work right if you click the translate to English button. I couldn't put the part in the cart. I used an ap on my phone to translate from German to English real time using the phone's camera. I then was able to do all if the transaction mechanics with the site in german "mode". My motive was to get the final cost shipped to my doorstep.

Unless you take a tool kit with you everywhere (which its starting to seem like that might not be a bad idea ) you wont be able to do alot... That is unless you plan on driving it to a mechanic and telling him to put this part on...

You are right though...it is pretty critical....cant do a whole lot without it.....and given that there are no outward signs of nearing failure, we probably all should have one ready to go....

While im at it....JUST prior to failure, did anyone notice a little low end sluggishness? Im trying to diagnose a little weirdness right before it let go...

Yeah I'm thinking he wants it in his trunk to minimize downtime. Even if you can't drive the car to a shop, once you get towed there, you have the replacement part in-hand and don't have to wait for delivery.

Exactly, and i am driving between from Philadelphia, Boston, Quebec and Vermont and upstate New York, so to find a part in these locations could be very very challenging

I don't think it'll be a repetitive issue if you use oem parts and change belts and bits at the same time. Average lifespan seems to be around 60k according to the report chart. I'm at 68k no problems just yet, seems to be in the near future though... Nice to see these discussions though, I'm about to go stage 3 as well... Hope everything works out for you after this fix.

Does anyone know if these engines are internally or externally balanced? If they are internally balanced it would be nice to ditch the crappy harmonic balancer for a lighter one piece crank pulley. Maybe someone on here can talk BPC or another reputable shop into making some better quality crank pulley's for these cars?

Internal balanced. I don't think you would want to give up the damping. If you go to one piece metal, that is what would happen.

Yeah based on what I have read....the dampening is intended to protect the crank shaft...Ill take crank shaft protection over some questionably reliable rubber.

Well if you are driving around all over hell with this car after 75k....Id probably keep one around....its not a very common part for most places to have on hand it seems. Though I dont think they have ANY parts in stock for the 335d locally.

I hope so too. Id suggest at least having one on hand for that eventuality.....its almost like buying a couple cases of oil....you know you are going to use it at some point...and when you need it, your car will be down for at least 3 days for shipping the new part.

Even though there was a huge argument about this on another thread, I cant help but think that the extra torque, in addition to the speed of which that extra torque increases (check the dyno chart for it) puts this part directly in the crosshairs of things that might fail after stage 3.

Seems like it could also be a heat issue, hence why Cortego added the plastic heat shield to deflect some of the heat that seems to be slowly softening the rubber and deformation.

Lexx, did you ever figure out what happened? I've used Paypal for method of payment in Denmark, UK, and Lithuania. Paying in euros to that German site should be straight forward. There is a way to talk with PayPal where you give them your phone number and they call you.

I believe they just don't want to ship to US. I have tried to go thru normal checkout and they had only 2 countries in the list Germany and Austria.

yes and in some ways it was the most disturbing breakdown from a "what the hell is wrong with my car" perspective...fixed under CPO warranty

What does it sound like when the balancer is starting to head south? When I gutted the SCR I noticed a vibration around 1800 RPM but I assumed it had to do with the SCR and maybe I didn't fasten down something perfectly. That was 10K miles ago and the car is at 68K. Anyone think I have a bum balancer? Could a balancer be "on the way out" for 10K miles?

In my case, there was no sound, no warning prior failure. It is sudden.

Thought I'd share with everyone how they are making performance aftermarket dampeners for diesel trucks. They claim that torsional vibration is increased with any tuned application.

I'm contacting fluidampr now for possible fabrication for our vehicles.
