No water temp gauge? Also: water pump died
Bought my CPO last weekend. En route to work this AM I get a 'water temp high' message in the iDrive screen, followed shortly by the 'water temp too high, shut off engine' message. Called BMW roadside assistance and while awaiting tow truck leafed through the manual only to discover there is no way to check the water temp. Is there a hack for this? Does Cobb or JB4 give that readout?
Anyway Desert BMW took care of me, providing a 2013 328i loaner and replacing the electric water pump before I got off work. Paperwork doesn't state the cost since it was CPO warranty work. My first bimmer and a mechanical failure after only 11 days of ownership; hope this is not a portent of things to come... |

water temps normally hover around the 210 range. I check them through the OBDII port + torque app

You're lucky it happened under CPO. Would have cost $1000-1500 at a dealer out of pocket.

Parts for this are just under $600 if you do the thermostat at the same time (which is highly recommended) and the DIY isn't too bad, there's one posted in the DIY section. Not 100% sure, but I think you can check coolant temp in the hidden menu. Do a search for it, I don't remember exactly how to get to it, but I could swear I remember seeing it when I was going through it one day.

Hmm, good info. Definitely will be looking for "shadow codes lol" and keeping eyes out for a good priced pump to have ready lol
