went into neutral by accident

i was driving on the highway today and i wasnt paying attention and i thought i was in manual mode and so i pushed the gear lever forward to downshift from 6th to 5th. but i was in drive and so it clicked into neutral. it only got up to about 3,000rpm then i quickly clicked it back into drive. no lights came on or anything and the car continued to drive fine. could this have caused any damage? thanks

No offense but really?

It's not good to ever rev your engine without load because you can spin a bearing. But that isn't going to happen from one time, that's for people who sit in their driveway and constantly rev to 5k rpms over and over.

You're fine. Now just dont rev it and go from neutral to drive.

i know in general downshifting to 3k is nothing, but going from a gear to neutral and going from neutral to a gear at that speed i didnt know what problems may arise.

its same as parking the car neutral and revving it to 3K, that's not harmful, but not suggested.

I money shifted my buddy's dad's Miata when we were kids. Neither one realized nor knew what that meant. I just kept on driving and I don't think anything ever came from it. I mean, the wheels drug some. It had to have been messed up

OP. Your car is ruined. Good luck. The automatic warranty-voider surely stored a stealth code. Your'e scrawd.

That's nothing. I used to work on out-of-town assignments years ago with large teams from my company and we used to rent cars as a matter of course. One guy would beat this sh*t of the rental cars, going so far as to slam the transmission in Park or Reverse at speeds in excess of 40mph or do stuff like drive the car with the e-brake engaged. We rented one car for four months and he would slam the transmission on every drive or drive off-road or whatever and that Chevy just kept on going.

if serious, I'd recommend you to open your own performance garage.

I used to do that to them all the time.

the best was when push start/stop first came out... and u stopped it at the ligth and they'd have to put the car in park and hit the brakes to restart, takes a lot longer than u'd think lol
