Good comparison in EVO a couple of months ago.
Quote:
They felt that the 335i was faster. The VXR8 was also in the evo car of the year edition when again they found that it was not as free revving and zesty as you would expect from a 6 litre V8. |

Ian, those figures are BMW figures, not actual figures. We all know 335i do 5.2-5.3 easy! A well launched 335d will do 5.5-5.6!!! I will responday, but we still aint goin to be done before dyno day so ''I will be stock''

Yep, I spotted that. My first thought was "Hardly a fair test, is it" followed by "I wonder how the other three compare" so I was watching that.
I also thought that it was funny that in my own mind, there's no way that the A6 3.2 matches the 530i for class. This is not a "BMW beats all" thing, is just that I know the 3.2 was originally the R32 motor, and it just doesn't seem the same as a 530i...

But they originally mentioned the M5. They compared its performance with the ''Beast of BMW'' and in reality it wouldnt even touch it!

They then went on in detail to explain why the M5 was more expensive. The drag race bit showed that the VXR8 is a bit faster in a straight line than it's peers. The hot lap pretty much demonstrates that the vauxhall is dynamically weaker than it's competitors. Although in it's defence is it was very wet. http://www.fastestlaps.com/track1.html |

I quite like the vauxhall, but the last thing I want is an underpowered 6 litre V8.
fastestlaps is a great site. They have the EVO times at bedford as well. Their time for the 330i always cheers me up. It's missing from the list, but it's 1:30 dead .. 0.05 secs behind the M5 http://www.fastestlaps.com/track10.html |

It's a very short circuit and the very fastest cars only hit 120mph. Speed into the corners is more important than sheer power. I've driven the Jaguar JP1 at Bedford. I managed 1.20 secs, but the time on fastest laps is a staggering 1.07 secs. http://www.fastestlaps.com/car471f2983c7cda.html I won't give up the day job yet. I drove a Formula Palmer Audi round the same circuit in 1.17 secs and it's nice to think that it was quicker than a Carrera GT, F1 or Enzo (on that particular circuit at least). |
