Oil Level

Got a warning that oil was below minimum this morning. Was going to go grab some oil and add a quart. Turn car on and run the check again. Now it says I have a normal level. I wish I had a dip stick to determine what the actual oil level is. Anyone dealt with this before? Engine is N54.

Was the car on a level surface, that will cause false readings.

If it went on then off you are most likely close to needing a quart. Car has lots of oil, 7qts, most have 4.5 to 5 quarts. Wait till it needs it so you don't overfill which is worse than a quart down.

Light came on when I was driving, there were hills around but not sure what the road was like right when it came on. The retest was on a flat surface.

You can still check the relative oil level through the screen... You can see if its close to the low end or high end.

Not sure if this is your situation but bmw runs such long intervals (19k) for 330i that these cars actually lose/burn some in that long haul on oil. I highly recommend not running interval like that but if you do you can expect that towards mid-end of each interval getting low rating. When I got mine first time I think mine had 3-4k left of 19k and oil warning came on during way back from NJ (were I bought it) I was like WTF is going on. Then I read up little on forum im like ahh, specially after doing change and seeing interval which is 19k im like you gotta be kidding. Stick to 6k-8k you wont have oil loss.

I just purchased my 2006 320 i, I was looking to check my oil level and noticed it did not have a dipstick. I have to rely on the electronics to tell me if it is low?

I'm in the same boat I suspect. Recent purchase of 335i decided to poke around under the hood, couldn't find the stick. I ve been wrenching on my motorcycles and cars for the last 35 years, and you can tell alot about the health of an engine by monitoring oil consumption. Can't really understand why they would not have a mechanical, or visual means of checking the level.

Do you know if there is a way to check oil level with a scanner? I recently purchased Autoenginuity with the BMW option (software to view sensors and trouble codes). I have a connection issue which I have yet to work out with their tech support.
