Please Help!!
Yesterday, someone dumped an unknown substance all over my car while I was at work. This substance was slimy, scentless, and clear. Oh yeah, there were at least 50 fruit flies stuck to my car because of this substance. Maybe it had a scent, but I couldn't smell it.
Here is my issue: on the gloss black paint between the two windows on my e92, I am unable to get rid of the "water" marks. I have tried detail spray and using a clay bar, I have used Adam's Revive, Bug and Tar remover, and white vinegar. I don't know where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are some pics of the damaged area. Here is how I drove home and this is the best picture I have of the unknown substance. Thanks for taking the time to read and help me out! |

+1. Looks like some kind of an acid. The fly attraction is weird though. Just use some fine grade polish on the window trim and the spots should come right out.

Also, I took a look at the security footage from the ancient video cameras, and I may have found the car that did it; however, I have never seen this car in my life, so I'm hoping it was a one time act of random vandalism. If this happens again, I will definitely file a police report. Quote:
Any brand I should try for the polish? What part is this exactly? Window trim? Also, if you have a part number that would be awesome in case the polish doesn't work, thanks! |

Yeah claybar that hood over twice. Then use Meguiars #105 coumpound followed by #205 polish. Along with like a 5 pack of MF towels. Cheapest option for you. If you have a random orbital then it should be a breeze for you

It honestly doesn't matter, something like Meguiars Ultimate Polish would be a cheap OTC product that will get the job done... avoid anything from Turtle Wax like the plague.

Thanks for all the responses guys
I found the part from Tischer for $8 plus shipping, so I'm pretty sure I'm just going to replace it... Although, I do have goo gone, so I may try that first before I order. As for the rest of the car, it probably needs a full detail (hasn't had one since January), which I will do myself once I have a full day off! |

Acetone will not 'strip' cured paint. There is very little acetone in the product mentioned, not that I would instigate its use for auto detailing

If you put acetone on the paint and start rubbing it in with pressure, it will most definitely strip the paint. Goo Gone comes in a solvent based version and a shitty 'citrus' based version that does not work, the solvent based version is about 1/3 acetone
