I just removed Rear bearings on an E93 M3 today. It was not this easy having the right tools really does help. Luckily you can borrow all of the tools need from Autozone for 90 days. I had the wrong jaw puller at first "5 ton jaw puller" I went back and got the "7 ton reversible puller" that worked for me. There is no way I could knock the shaft out with a hammer or pull out, it was really stuck in there. If the 7 ton does not work Harbor Freight sells a 12 Ton 3 Jaw Hydraulic Gear Puller, this will work. The other thing I had issues with was the cir-clip, it would not budge, take the new clip with you to a Hardware or Auto Parts store to get a tool that can squeeze it. Also make sure you have the ball bearings in the bearing removal/install kit, mine did not I think it will be less stressful on the system. Still pending the install of the new bearings but it looks like cake compared to the removal, I hope... This video really helped me. youtube.com/watch?v=q_kenFE248U&t=211s
How long did it take you to do the bearing removal?

I would say 4 hours, removing stabilizer bar, disconnecting axles, removing brakes & calipers, pushing axle out, removing cir-clips, then pressing bearings out. Search my posts for pics of tools and how I made a saw blade to hit the axles back in enough to pull with axle nut. Have extra nut just in case it's needed.

Installing the axle was the hardest part. I made this to use and hammer it in, even greased up it was difficult. BMW has an hydraulic tool to push out and pull in the axle. Getting it in was the bit*h. Attaching picture have to find it.

You can borrow all of the tools from Autozone.
No need to buy this.

Yep, You are correct. My M3 threads were clean no rust, cleaned well with wire brush, greased up good, but just to get those first few threads to start I had to use a hammer and my saw blade contraption to hammer it in. Once I got a few threads, it pulled with the nut. I lost the German lottery on that one...

I'll use your method if i need too...good to have options! Thx for being a trailblazer.

I think I found the kit he used, BTW...very inexpensive (I love the internet!). Worth "wasting" the money on just to try it, if only for the M12x1.5 long bolts! I already have a bearing separator kit and a 3 jaw puller set so this will be a nice addition.

I had to do mine twice (335d)

First bearing from ECS had defective magnetic strip that was tripping speed sensor readings.
I did it at INDY shop with the guide from my mechanic (he got injured a day before and could not work). It took me ~6 hours - I am slow.

Second bearing was installed 2 weeks later - 3 hours total.

We lowered exhaust a bit but did not removed it.
No suspension parts was removed at all, so as parking brake shoes.

I did removed rear bumper ahead of shop visit as part of another DIY repair.

Next time I'll DIY it, but first time mechanic's tips were amazing
