^A guy in my area was selling a black one that looked similar to the one I posted above (lift kit & tires included) for $2800! Mileage wasn't that bad and the body was clean. Just to give you an idea.

I agree gas is a bitch, but driving around in a decked out Jeep would put a grin on my face every time, lots of fun.

Only reason I'm not buying a 4.0 Jeep is because I've got a work truck now to drive all winter

when I was 16 years old, I have a '98 Mitsu eclipse w/ body kit, wheels, blah , blah , blah...Did NOT consider my car a daily driver... even though it really was, as I only drove another vehicle once or twice a week, if that. My eclipse was a $14,000 car on its best day, with me only getting about 8,000 when it got totaled (not my fault)

If I had a Lambo, a Rolls, and a BMW, then by all means my BMW would be my daily driver.

However, that is not my case... my BMW IS my lambo per-se. I want to take care of my car, even if it is "only" a 328. Driving it in the snow=me NOT taking care of it IMO.
I understand that you are trying to keep the 328 in the best condition possible. But did you really think that the 328 will depreciate an additional couple grand after daily driving it in the snow as well as daily driving it in general? The 328 is made to be a DD. Just throw a set of snow tires and call it a day.

You need to realize that it doesn't just cost 4k to own a car. Insurance, registration, maintenance, repairs (used car), gas (older Jeep Wrangler only averages 13 city MPG and 16 highway MPG).

Is this really worth babying your 328?

One of the main advantages to driving a beater in the winter is that snow is a somewhat unpredictable surface, and even though you might consider yourself be an extremely cautious driver, which I'm sure most of us here are, that 16 year old driving the 240sx on summer tires isn't the smartest driver in the world. Some accidents are unavoidable in those instances, and if your car gets totaled, who cares?

BTW OP, just found this: http://baltimore.craigslist.org/cto/2527706559.html Pretty rare to find one with AC, but not so rare to find one with rust. I just love Honda's. They're like Legos.

Sometimes you just need to think of an excuse to buy another car, this is his.

$2775 for that POS? That guy must be high.

I don't care what condition its in, it's an '88 Honda that's ugly as sin.

I run Blizzaks on my G35 in the winter, and even with those that thing isn't going anywhere in more than a few inches of snow. Even with snow tires, a low car is not going to make it through 8-10" of snow. No chance. I would get a small truck if I were you. The utility of a truck is so nice to have.

Thank you.

Everyone says "get snows, you'll be fine" , not so fast...

Snow tires or not, my 328 (w/ sport package) isn't making it through any snow higher than 6"-8", and that is with traction on a good day.

I used to have an Mitsu Eclipse with a body kit on it when I was 16, car was slammed too. I seriously had a snow plow on my car my car sat so low. I remember getting stuck once because I had so much snow up underneath my car I couldn't get traction. Guess you shouldn't try to plow through 12"+ of snow when your front bumper is literally 4" off the ground

my 335xi is my daily driver/beater. no issues in the winter. put that 4k towards a 328xi maybe. i would hate driving a piece of junk car in the winter. they tend to break down when you really need them unfortunately

The last thing I wanted in my BMW, is some heavy ass AWD system. (OK i get that the AWD system is great and all but I did NOT want AWD)

Trust me, I looked long and hard at the AWD's, and yes, they pretty much drive the same, etc, etc, etc... But I wanted a RWD car. Period.

I JUST bought my 328i back in April, is my first BMW, am 25, and in no way trading in my RWD for an AWD.

a 4k car is not a piece of junk IMO. There is a huge variety of BMW owners on here, some own a Lambo and their BMW is their DD, Some own a honda civic and their BMW IS their "lambo"...

I have seen many 4k cars that are perfectly fine. Yea, its not as "fun" or "nice" to drive as a BMW, but it is was then why even buy a BMW?

To some people on here, a 4k car is a complete POS. To others, its a mid-90's car with higher mileage that is no "better" or "worse" than half the cars you see out in your parking lot. also, a 4k civic and a 4k '87 mercedes are too completely different things... remember not all cars cost over 45k brand new...

No spoiled kid there. When I was younger my co-worker told me get a cutlass, regal, malibu those things are beast they dont die. In fact 3.1 v6 chevy are great they dont die my friends kicked the crap out of theirs when they were younger they never died. Those guys werent changing oil had 150K+ Miles running like new. Best beater I had was a Mazda 323 the thing was a tank. You could check out some Protege 5(They still look good) only prob those cars are rust buckets.

1.1st check out craigslist for a car then buy it
2. Check out craigslist for 4 used tires
3.Get 1 way insurance(no theft, no collision,no vandalism)
4. Get AAA
5.Have fun low budget style.

Check out 4-Runners and Tacomas. Those things run forever.

I bought a '91 S-10 4x4 with 235k miles on it as a secondary vehicle / winter beater a few years ago for $350. Drove it for 2 years and 15k miles with hardly any problems and sold it for $600. I now have a '94 Dodge Dakota 4X4 with 220k miles that I bought for $1200. The thing is in really good condition and rides like a Cadillac. I painted it all matte black and it actually looks pretty decent too.

I still drive my G in the winter, but if it's snowing I take the truck. It comes in handy quite a bit in the summer as well. Also, it's nice to have a second car if your primary is ever in the shop or out of commission for any reason.

3. Would def just get liability, no need for full coverage.
4. Already have AAA
5. You are right.

Thanks man, a co-worker of mine has a early 90's chevy stationwagon W/ wood panels that he wants to sell me Thing is a beast in the snow, but I want somethig a little more practical than that haha.

Volvo 240? Very beastly in the snow and solid as a tank. Any RWD Volvo should be, for that matter.
