GoPro Hero2 for cheap!

Hey, just thought I'd give a heads up in case people haven't checked out their weekly flyers that Best Buy has the GoPro Hero2 as one of their Black Friday sale items for $179.99! It's the outdoor edition but you can easily get the suction cup mount for about $30. Yes there is the new Hero3 out but it isn't $180.

Nice I've been dropping hints to the wife about the Hero 3 the past month or so haha. Might still pick up a Hero 2 as well given the price. I suspect a lot more videos being posted up next season.

Looks like this week it's FutureShop's turn. Best of luck to those on the hunt.

Already sold out, I checked early this morning.

Though it's misleading, because I checked last week since Futureshop matches Bestbuy sales, and they were already sold out back then. Boooo.

Where did you get it? Regular price at futureshop? online? Did you get the version with the controller?

I disagree, unless you have the black edition, price vs quality, id stick with the go pro 2, and I have the the silver edition and go pro 2. I didnt want to fork out the $499 for the black edition (1080p 60 fps which is sick for slow mo), now that i look back the silver was a big waste considering my go pro 2 was 159.99 - 10% off (price matched with amazon.ca at BB)

EDIT: Ohh ya I forgot, hero 3 has wifi.... like im gonna pay $99 bux for a silly controller anyway

Until you actually use a wifi remote, I wouldn't be quick to judge. The idea of turning the camera on and off without having to physically go out and press the buttons proves useful when shooting car scenes (other scenes as well).

$500 is a bit steep, but I didn't get it for that price( about $100 bucks or so cheaper).
60 fps in 1080 is awesome, especially for car vids. On my Hero 1, I kept it at 720 60fps to avoid the "jello" effect when using a higher resolution with a lower fps for high action scene.

The night videos on hero 3 is a massive improvement over hero 1 and 2 cameras. I am looking to understand the black edition hero 3 and it's benefits when using protune (true potential for the camera).

edit: I am talking strictly black edition hero 3. The other versions are shown to be just gopro 2 cameras with wifi built in.

Don't mean to revive this pretty much dead thread but just found this video on YouTube that might be helpful for people still contemplating which GoPro to get. Compares a Hero3 Black, Silver, and Hero2.

Iv used the wifi remote...I guess it depends on the user but I think its completely useless and plus for another $110 for he remote, Ill say no thank you. (putting the complete package over $600 plus taxes with remote)

For the money I spent (and how much ill use this thing) the hero 2 works perfect for me.

Well black edition comes with wifi remote. Not sure if you are talking about that.

Depends on what shots you take etc.

I apologize yes it does come with it....still useless to me for $450 plus tax. They shoulda added some nice equipment like the outdoor edition.

Like I said if you use the remote, for whatever reason, great for you, but for the extra 30 fps, it doesnt seem like its worth it, when for the same price you could get 2 and a half gopro 2's for the price.

EDT: Also with the black edition you NEED a good quality SD card... like the one HERE for $179 on sale, anything less and youll start loosing frames (which means youll prolly be filming in 30 fps instead of the 60fps in HD....which in turn makes it a go pro 2 :P ) I thought you could get away with the less expensive 45mb/s but people are reporting it still misses frames

Cool. It is obvious the Black edition is not for you(Don't need the extra features) .

Also needing a $180 card is false. Don't need to spread around these rumours when people with a $50 card is having no problems. My Adata card is holding up perfectly fine in all modes.

Huh? this is not false, its science, ESPECIALLY in burst mode.

If your recording in HD @ 60fps and it writes at 25 m/sec how can a card that does 10/megs a sec keep up? It keeps up by skipping frames. Same with burst mode - gopro 3 does 12 megapixles @ 30 pics a second ... you do the math.

I use a sandisk 45/mbs in my go pro 2 and it only does 11 megapixles @ 10 photos a sec.

hope you dont think im arguing with you or trying to start a "internet flame war" I'm just trying to state what I have found and what people should maybe be considering.

No worries bud. Not taking it as an argument. Good information here.

I think you may be confusing MB (megabyte) with Mb (megabit).
I got some good information from this site regarding the memory stick issue.

http://goprouser.freeforums.org/befo...?hilit=SanDisk Extreme Pro&start=10

I primarily use video and not photoburst. If the frames are too much for the speed of the memory stick, the camera will stop the recording. For testing, I put a class 4 stick in the camera and got no more than 10 seconds of recording (1080/60p) before it stopped recording (againI knew this was not the right card).

I'll try photoburst and see how it goes.

edit: I just did a photoburst of 30fps 12mp wide and had no problems capturing all 30 frames.
