Transmisson Needs Adaptation Reset After Fluid&Filter Service?

Do I have to reset the trans adaptions after doing the fluid and filter? I ask this because it does shift rough when cold once in a while.

Thanks.

Honestly not sure yet. Would like some help on this. How can I do it with Tool 32? I can't seem to do it on INPA. Does anyone know the job name on Tool 32 to reset the adaptations? I asked the guys who make the xHP flash and they said that I don't need to reset them unless I changed hardware in the trans. I'm very confused don't know what to do lol.

ISTA-D has a function to perform after fluid change. It’s a separate from adaptations reset.

Use ISTA-D.

The reset in INPA is not the same and resets more stuff and makes rough shifting worse, except if you follow a long and tedious calibration procedure drive. Not recommended.

Can you tell me how to do it through Ista d? Yes I know if I reset the adaptations with inpa I would have to do the complicated reset procedure which I'd like to avoid.

In ISTA-D, you do a functionnal job for changing the trans oil. It will drive you through getting the oil at the appropriate temperature to check the level etc. At this point you simply click next and it will do the software reset as appropriate before letting you know you did a good job.

If problem persist you may need new solenoids, or have a problem with oil pressure due to one of the internal plastic seals being cracked. The big one that looks like 2 squares next to one another is known to fail often.

Only if the current transmission behavior is really bothering you. Otherwise let it be. You are not hurting anything by not resetting adaptations. You've done the most important step which is to replace the fluid.

From what i read i wouldn't do it. You trans has adapted to certain line pressures and worn parts, etc etc.

After the reset you have to do a relearn which sounds complicated and your trans might not be better might actually be worse since the reset is for a fresh build.

Thats why MHD or XHP do not make it as an option since some people have really worn transmissions.

i'd do more research

Yes this is exactly why I don't wanna do the reset. I just needed to make sure if there was a certain reset they do at the dealer when they service your trans fluid. I used ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid and a ZF pan. I do get slight rough shifts here and there when the trans is cold. I just wanted to make sure I did every thing right. Thanks for the advise.

Interesting info guys. We were discussing this yesterday here in the forum. This applies to me too. I never reset adaptations on mine after fluid and pan change back in 2014. I also get the slight rough shifting when cold and 1>2nd occasionally. it bothers me a bit but other than that all works fine.

My GM trans for my 2011 323i always shifted a bit rough in the cold. Mind you my car only has 77,000 KM. After a few mins of driving though it smooths out and shifts fine.
