Group buy for Koni FSD
Ok amigos in the interest of everyone, I have managed to speak to Lee Grimes from Koni for a group buy. Noteworthy, that if I get more than enough interested personnel the price will obviously go down, how much so? I dont know but will confer with the Distributor and/or Mr. Grimes, shipping of course I cannot change but if its in the same destination then then i beleive it can be lowered as well, so far I have 2-3 believers on my side of the pond.
Mind you one of the purchasers is an 02 M3 and he is getting the Koni Sport schocks since there is NO FSds for it. That said, those interested please post and eventually I will confer with Lee. BTW Im not getting anything in return since duh!! I bought the FSDs at a 20%discount various months ago!! As always Im trying to help my fellow Bimsters and of course my "D" brothers!! Any questions feel free to contact me, and please dont ask about spring rate, can the "D" handle it or whatever, all I know is that I have used them for over 6 years on two different setups an 02 MCS and now my 335d and I love it, here is the link for said Koni's. http://www.koni.com/car-racing/products/performance/ http://www.koni.com/car-racing/finder/ Oh BTW any TECHY questions feel free to contact Mr. Grimes at the following email: Grimes, Lee - ITT Motion Technologies Lee.Grimes@itt.com

Had these along with the Eibach ProKit on my E46 non-sport, and it both handled better AND rode more comfortably than when it was new. Not ready to swap out my stock suspension at 1 month into ownership, but if I were, I wouldn't consider anything besides the FSDs. They're really great.

@geko29, I know that is why at the year mark i changed my NON Sport system to FSDs, they are a WORLD apart from OEM, and more so here in Puerto Rico, so much so that my friend who owns an 02 M3 wanted them, but to his demiss there are no FSDs for that year but the Koni Sport which BTW are way better the OEM, thanks for your input

Hate to burst anyones bubble but Puerto, how many miles do you have on the Koni's? I installed the FSD's on a 540 sport and a 328 sport. No problems on the 328, but on the 540 with the high rate springs and heavy engine (diesel 6 weighs about the same as the gas V8) the front FSDs were totally shot in 12K miles. The bump stops were the only thing keeping the car on the road. Koni did replace them with yellow adjustables which have been fine ever since. But there were many others with the same issue. Was it a manufacturing issue or a design issue that the FSD's cannot handle the service of high rate springs and a heavy engine?

I think the problem everyone is experiencing is if you pair up the FSDs with a higher spring rate such as the Pro-kit or H&R. FSDs are mean't for only OEM springs. It should pair well with the sport springs or bmw performance springs. Anything over that will be too aggressive fort he FSDs which will cause premature failure.

That could be very well be true I used the FSDs with my 02 MCS sport springs and worked perfectly, but again refer yourself to Mr. grimes and he can answer this question of yours that BTW is a great one, and please, if he responds to you please post just to keep us well informed, gracias!!

I did talk with Koni, this is how I got the swap from FSD's to Yellow Adjustables. They know what's up but would not say other than to honor the warrenty with no questions asked. Of course I was not happy with having to change them after only 12 months. I will also add the overall finish is not up to my standards. They corrode very easily, much more so than OEM. Plus on one the spring perch became loose, If I pull on it I can spin it on the shock. Fortunately with the weight of the car, it stays in place. |

Would you offer a spring combo? What pricing are we looking at? I was going to go with Bilstein c/o in the spring because of the KW V2 potential for chirp. Since I will never adjust them once they are set, was thinking the Koni with upgraded springs.
What is the ride quality like? Just read this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=753916 Looks like the FSD are for stock springs and not for lowering?

Eye4speed, I'm running KW V3s and have never heard a chirp. Is that something linked to the V2s only?

I got some sad news amigos I will copy paste the email I got from Lee:
Hello Axel, I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and I would like to help out however we can but we need to be careful about what you offer to people. We cannot simply offer a Group Buy at a deeply discounted price to anyone and everyone without a plan of how it will work and be fulfilled. We need to find a way to make it work within the parameters of our dealer network and market or as a reasonable exception to it. Your location in Puerto Rico gives us some flexibility in making a deal for a few people as our primary Puerto Rican distributor has gone out of business a few years ago and there is currently no established dealer network there. I am okay with trying to find a small and flexible dealer who can arrange some retail sales in Puerto Rico. If there is a company in Puerto Rico that wants to do the transaction and sales of the parts to consumers in Puerto Rico, I can most likely find a wholesale distributor who can make those arrangements. We definitely cannot make an offer to people outside of Puerto Rico for a Group Buy or anything similar to that at all. Again, I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to put some sales together but we must have a specific plan and scope of what you have in mind and how to deal with it that does not throw aside our considerable market pricing balancing efforts and distribution programs. Before making any promises to anyone, please let me know what you have in mind, how many people you are thinking about, etc. so that we can come up with a plan to execute it. Best regards, Lee Grimes KONI North America As you see they work as a network anything else then it messes the other. I firmly beleive it can be done as to have the purchases done by areas and/or convince them that you guys are serious about this, at least I tried to get you all the best, it is in your hands, I have to bat for my guys now.
