Idrive Failing - options

Hey guys, my IDrive system is failing (E92 LCI) what are my options?

If you're not familiar with the failure, the system basically will shut off and restart randomly (and even multiple times), and I think all the music I had saved was deleted.

I would determine why it's failing.

if it's the drive going bad I would shove a SSD in it and go on about my day.

1. What is cic?

If that does not work. There's always the easiest which is to retrofit another CIC Headunit. Add a emulator and you all is well.

If you don't like the idea of having an emulator then you also have a further option to virginize the retrofitted unit and have it programmed to your car like it came off the factory floor. Pricey? Yes! SSD mod is still do able after this too!

Last option. Walk into your fav stealership, bring lube and condoms.

there's tricks to getting a clone from a failing drive.

and there are probably cloned images out there if you look hard enough.

Lol you guys need to do more research. He's telling op to upgrade his cic (op mentioned he has an lci) to the nbt system. Nbt aka next best thing is literally the name bmw gave to the navigation system. There is "ccc" pre lci / "cic" which is the lci version of the idrive operating system, and then "nbt aka next best thing" which is the current idrive operating system.

Paying 1500+ to put that crap in is not worth it. Its already crappy and out of date. Best to go with an drop in android solution for 500 dollars.

You can't drop one of those cheap android units into an Idrive car
and not loose the idrive and have a dead screen in the Hump in the
middle of the dash. (Unless you are and electronic genius)
Plus the Logic 7 amp adds an extra hurdle if you have that.

Completely wrong. They have been making this drop in android system that works with idrive side by side. You pull the idrive screen out and drop in this better android screen which contains the hardware for android all in one. If he replaced his broken idrive with this I assume everything would work but would of course not be able to use idrive just android

believe the avins piggy back on the existing idrive(or pro radio ) system
and use the aux input on the existing system for audio.
So you have to have a working idrive to start with .
Without a working aux I don't think this would work.
The Avins seem relatively to be relatively new.

Reviews are not very good.

all of the aftermarket screens and such just interupt the LVDS signal from the idrive unit to the screen.

You still need a working idrive unit if you want to change any options, use the handsfree or your satellite radio.

step one would be to figure out why the cic system is broken. My bet is still on the drive failing since he stated that all the save music disappeared.

I don't get why people always suggest spending a shit ton of money to replace things before they even bother to diagnose the original fault. It's quite possible his idrive system can be repaired for under a hundred bucks and work better than it ever had.
