Funny, I can't wait to see another bargain supercar like the gtr or corvette rape the 918 so we can hear all kinds of bitching from Porsche on how the cars must have been tweaked for racing and cheated on their lap times.

Lol @ Porsche being king of the ring. It is not kings who are remembered the most, but those who dethrone the king and claim the crown for themselves.
LOL

Agreed. If it was closer to $500K, I'd order one. $900K+ is a little steep, though. Besides, lightly used E92 M3 for $50K with $850K is mods would destroy that Porsche on a track. It's a waste of money.

With the growing hyper car market, Porsche is untitled to announce what ever price they want considering the value only goes up from then on being its really a enthusiast collectors item. Even if you guys had the coins, all 918 units are sold out Guess they didn't have a problem in the marketing department.

There's no such thing as "sold out" with cars like these.

who the hell can afford a $500k car but not a $900k car? This car isn't intended for people in the "middle class millionaire" range ($1M-$10M). The median individual in this market has over $25M in liquid assets (forbes.com cited this figure a couple of years ago). $500k vs $900k is neither here nor there.

I think you guys focus on the money aspect too much for cars in this class. The intended market does not care nearly as much as you guys do. Someone with $50M isn't placing too much emphasis on the fact that the $900k 918 isn't 10 times faster around the track than a $90k GTR. The 918 is a better and more exclusive car than the GTR. That's what they care about.

Now if the 918 was $1 billion, then yeah you guys would have a point. Porsche would limit the market size to such an extent that virtually no one would buy it, but this isn't the case. The 918 is priced sufficiently low enough such that the extra financial "strain" on the intended buyer is so small as to be insignificant.

^ I think you missed the part where he is trolling...Or it could be that he's actually got his head up so far in Porsche's ass that the suffocation caused mental retardation.

Trolling or not, I see this debate over price tags all the time and it's totally irrational. Beyond what I've already mentioned, here's another reason why it's irrational -

People in this market need not be thinking "Porsche or GTR?" They very likely can get both cars if they really want.

Value when it comes to luxury really only matters for us mere mortals.

Nah. If it came in at $400K less, I could spend that money saved on a nice daily-driver, a luxury SUV, and a work truck. Then I'd be in.

I bet Porsche will still charge $795 for carbon fiber AC-vent surrounds as an option, too...

I think that was some sarcasm from f32.

At the end of a day in the future, the P1 will be topped.
Then that car.
Then that car.

Or you could buy a Radical which is significantly cheaper than the P1 and already holds the lap record for a production car.

And I doubt the P1 will be able to beat even this time given its run 7:04. 7 seconds on a sub 6 minute lap is a lifetime.
What complete Bullshit, the production car record is held buy the street legal and driven all the way from the UK to the Ring, Radical SR8 LM, with a time of 6.48 in 2009.

here's the video
