DIY - E90 LCI Fog Light Bulb Swap
I popped in a pair of MTEC 4350k Fog Lights the other day and thought I would write up a quick DIY to show the process in case others might be interested.
The MTECs are truly plug and play - it's simply a matter of removing a few screws from the wheel well and lower front bumper and then swapping the bulbs. I'm very pleased with the MTECs. The 4350s match my HIDs and LUX H8 angel eyes extremely well. The pictures shown below (with screw locations and the bulb swapping steps) are for my '09 E90 LCI, other models/years may have slightly different setups, but should be similar. Note: It's unnecessary to remove the wheel to perform the bulb swap, just rotate the wheels out of the way while performing the install. Step-by-step Start by removing the four screws from under the front bumper as shown in the pic below: Next, remove the two screws in the wheel well as indicated in the pic below: You should now be able to pull the wheel well liner open to gain access to the bulb. I've noted the bulb location in the pic below: Here's a shot of the back of the bulb/wiring harness: To swap out the bulb, remove the wiring harness by pulling down and then rotate the bulb counter clockwise. Do these steps in reverse to install the new bulb. See details in the pic below: Here's the money shots:

@Wlew - I'm assuming both of these bulbs will work on your '06. If you want to be sure, I'd post a question to Marc (MDS82), he's always been responsive. Regarding the fogs, I've talked to the friendly folks at E92 Lighting, they were very helpful, I'm sure they can get you set up.

FYI for anyone with (09+) e90 LCI M-Sport Bumper the bulb is a HB4 9006 51W Bulb.
The replacement instructions are identical, except for 1 additional screw under the front bumper. I made the mistake of ordering an H8 for these. Ooops. |

How bright are the MTEC 4350k vs. OEM? They look good in the pics you provided but I've heard other reports that say they are dim and washed out. You can barely see them on in daytime, and lights up only 10 feet or so in front at night...
What's your take? |

"Dim and washed out" has not been my experience at all. They are definitely brighter than the OEM fogs. The pix you see are a good representation of the performance you can expect.

zzzbullseye or E92-Lighting,
I see you're in a LCI.. I am in a '07 PRE LCI 335. Any danger in throwing codes or having issues with these MTEC 4350k Super Whites for my car? I realize I will need H11 bulbs and not the H8 bulb type since I'm PRE LCI... Also, zzbullseye... do you still have your stock headlights in at 4300k? I just ordered a LUX 5.1 LED Angel Eye upgrade and I am curious if my stock headlights will not be bright enough. I like the way yours matches so I was curious if you had upgraded your headlights as well. Thoughts anyone? Thanks! |
