Is there a way to turn Screen completely off?
Im talking about No back light, no messages. Just off. On long night road trips the glare bothers my night vision. My friend has a honda and his navigation can turn completely off, no backlight. Anyone figure a mod or switch that can be added for this? Im about to pull the fuse on long Night time road trips.

I've never heard about a way to completely turn it off. I always thought it was stupid that the backlight stayed on.

Your best bet would be to just dim the screen as much as you can. This should reduce the glare a little. I doubt that you wanna start messing with the the wiring or fuses on the system. It's up to you though.

The older non-HD i-Drive would not turn completely off - it always had a backlight (which is bright at night)
The newer HD i-Drive does turn completely off - no backlight. This can be done (I believe) in the Options. |

Yeah, but it still doesn't turn it completely off, there's still a dim glow that comes from it when you hit it "off" in the older version.

I have my star button on the steering wheel set to turn the monitor on and off in my 2008 and yes, it does still glow a bit when it's off. The glow is very dim though and it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I kinda like the glow but I do turn the monitor off at night when I'm not using it. You can even turn the monitor off when using navigation. Whenever the nav system needs to tell you something (like a turn is coming up) it turns itself on, gives you the information, and then turns itself off again. Pretty neat if you ask me...

My 2007 manual shows a brightness adjustment under the i/settings menu. The headlight low beams must be on while making this adjustment and it is then stored for the individual key fob. I haven't tried it yet, but perhaps it will work for your '06.
